War quest line?

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 3:32 pm

So with the whole king gets owned, empire crumbling and the civil war, wouldn't a war filled quest line be good? I mean a WAR, gruesome combat, blood and screaming everywhere. Maybe you could lead part of an army into battle? (Maybe this is why the locking system is in to avoid friendly fire? :hubbahubba: ) Wouldn't a huge battle (25-50 NPCS each side) be awesome? Maybe more then one battle? I would love war in a TES game you could choose a side and fight, or stand on a mountain and watch the bloodshed from a mountain above the blood drenched plains. Epic view, birds flying, arrows soaring, blood spillling, nords roaring battle cries while others die, javelins impaling(we can hope), finishing moves all over, spells flying around in colors. Massive loot afterwards. :icecream: Hopefully more then one battle? This would add so much to roleplaying. Maybe bring loyal companions with you into battle to watch your back? Along with the new combat and finishing moves this could be epic. Battlemages, warriors, archers and all would like this. Even peaceful mages and honorable thieves wouldn't want to miss watching huge battles from afar. This would make great a DLC/questline. I'd love to somehow keep the war going, maybe let the last few flee to bulk up again and return to battle again,or some way to keep the battles happening. This would be great IMO, battles like this happening like once a month in game would be epic. Anyone else want an actual war?

This is something I've always wanted. Sadly my processor doesn't.

I dont think even this engine would be able to handle 100+ battles, let alone out Computers/Consoles but a few smaller scale battles would be awesome.
Plus in the PC gamer article they make it seem like the Civil war will be the focus of the main story earlier on with you finding out about your "specialness" later on.

I would love to see it, but with dragons flying around I doubt either side has a war campain in mind. That be stupid.

Their will be conflict, but I doubt there will be a large scale battles, and rightfully so. Wouldn't a dragon just hop down and have a feast if he saw a mass of nords running around.

What about 50 NPCs each battle? And maybe dragons aren't around then, or could attack the battlefield.

Given that the game needs to cater for lower RAMs in the XBOX and PS3, I expect the biggest battle we find may have 20-30 NPCs in total, probably closer to 20.

I've always wanted a REAL battle in TES. The great gate battle in Oblvion was... a small war party vs. a couple demons. I want a REAL battle in Skyrim! Hundreds of troops facing off, various tactics, units, positions, terrain, etc. Not sure how they could have all that happening at once without blowing up your console, but... :P

you forgot siege weapons.... I've always wanted a huge siege on some castle... men on the walls preparing to throw large buckets of boiling oil on their enemies onece they reach the walls, crossbowmen on the castle walls... archers bellow... siege weapons... and many spearmen, axemen, and swordsmen on each side...

I'm not too keen on having battles in. Maybe one or two would be cool, but if there were more I would get tired of them and I think it takes too much away from "minding my own business", meaning roaming and doing other quests and stuff. The civil war will probably play a part in the story and a battle might be alright, but I don't want it to take all the attention - which I am convinced it would easily do. I don't really want an action game as much as an adventure game.

It can be ignored for roleplaying reasons, that way you'd never know where or when the battles are. Or maybe you'll need to start the quest line to trigger them al a oblivion gates.

I'm not as convinced about that as you are, obviously :) Besides, I don't know about you, but I got pretty damn tired of the gates at some point in the Oblivion questline! :obliviongate:

If the engine is similar to Oblivion's when it comes to its (lack of) capability to handle large numbers of NPCs, I don't see this happening.

I'm not gonna lie and say I wouldn't want there to be some epic battle, or even several where you could say, lead a cavalry charge (on the off chance horse combat would be in the game) into a horde of enemies flank then duking it out in epic LotR fashion. Alas, I doubt my PC could handle that (at least not on medium/high settings) so I won't hold my breath.

A DX11-enabled battle of hundreds of Tessellated/Geometry Instanced NPC's, plus a simple/group AI to handle them would be great. Although PC only :)
