Continuing on with the Grey Knights, what the hell?

Also, I'm thinking about getting some of the Ciphas Cain, the Hero of the Imperium!!!, books or the Horus Heresy. How are they, and which order should I read them?

The best thing in the codex is how the Grey Knights slaughter and kill the inocent Sisters of Battle so they can consencrate themselves with thier blood so they can defeat a greater deamon or something like that. Talk about Blood for the Blood God, I am sure Khorn is smiling.

So now it seems when ever GK go into battle inocent people have to die so the GK can be consencrated in thier blood.

It looks like the GK are no long Pure any more. Also just because a planet of 300 BILLION knew about Daemons, all 300 BILLION people were killed so they can't talk about it. This game is definently not for young kids, but that is where they market the games now.

Speaking of Cain, the cover posted on the last post made me think of this:
http://www.monkeyboobies.com/gallery/d/221-2/drive+me+closer_+i+want+to+hit+them+with+my+sword.png

I think that most books are stand alone. Dead Men Walking of the Imperial Guard series is awesome. At first you think that all Death Corps are supreme a-holes then you read the last page and, so to speak, all roads lead to Rome and you get the whole thing about them. Maybe

Edit: Oh, and thanks for continuing the thread

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. "let's bathe in the blood of our virgin allies! so that we can defeat a daemon! That makes sense right? Blood defends against the blood god!"

If you ask me, it sounds like they have a bit of ork in them. If they believe it to be true, it must be true. Hell, the Tau and Tyranid player in my fraternity is miffed with how OP the GKs are.

Also, how are the CC books in general, along with Horus Heresy?

Haven't read them, but Ciaphais Cain books are supposed to be good, and I've heard Horus Heresy is good with people not being entirely satisfied with one or two books in the series that vary by person to person.

I've read the first omnibus (For The Emperor, Caves of Ice, The Traitor's Hand) and am working through the second (finished Death Or Glory, just started on Duty Calls). They're worth a read, a fun (compared to grimdark serious) series. Can't speak for the HH.

Coincidentally, I ordered the Grey Knights omnibus a couple of weeks ago, and it arrived a few days ago :hehe:. I'll get to it after I finish the Cain book I've borrowed and an unrelated http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/book/9780451454539/Grunts featuring orcs. Eisenhorn (by Abnett) arrived yesterday, too.

My urge to acquire books is one of the most serious threats to my bank balance :(.

Aw, man, I was just about to start the new Warhammer 40k thread :P

I read the first Horus Heresey book, [i]Horus Rising[/i and I thought it was amazing, honestly. Its written by Abnett, who is a fantastic 40k writer. He does a great job with the characters, especially Horus and Loken. I highly reccomend it.

I'm considering starting up a Chaos Space Marines army centered around Khorne/World Eaters. Anyone have any suggestions for what to start out with?

Start with buying the GK codex so you can bathe in the Blood for the Blood God. Kidding there. It's hard for me to say, since while I do own the Chaos codex, I haven't read it much since the fluff is not like it was in the 3.5 codex. I also don't have any experiance in it at all.

Do you want a fluffy army? Do you want a fluffy army and win? That could be hard to do from what I read in players. I say the best bet would be to go to DakkaDakka and ask there, or even Warseer. Thing with Warseer there is a reason why it's called Whineseer for a reason.

The thing with the 4th edtion Chaos SM book is it brings them all together, while you may to a pure Khorne/World Eaters it will not be anything like the 3.5 codex. A few people use other codicies because they can better represent Khorne/World Eaters, so I would go and ask in those forums as I said because you will get so many more replies.

I use DakkaDakka a good bit, its a great 40k site, and I am more inda going for a fluffy army, but not one that will be horrible when I get to play with it. I'll buy the CSM Dex and start mathammering the list.

Or become a Grey Knight and make Khorne happy by slaughtering nuns because I'm so pure! Wait... :P

I would recommand the Cain novels given that it is 40k with a sense of humor with a interesting rogue character that isn't a meat bag with a gun like many characters in 40k novels, As for the Horus Heresy having plenty of great examples of gothic science fiction with a theme on betrayal and would start with 'Horus Rising'.

While we are discussing 40k Books I do wish that there would be less focus on the Adaptis Astartes with more on the other branchs of the Imperium at the very least. I would personally love some Imperial Navy novels for more space battles and in general less space marines and more diversifing in the Black Library's written materials.

@D-11: I too enjoyed 'Dead Men Walking' and thought the explanation towards the ending with the titledrop was well done.

And yes from what I've been hearing on the Grey Knights that the ones writting the lore regarding them should probably rethink their strategy to put it lightly.

Some Eldar books could be interesting. The some more on the Adeptus Sororitas would bring some variety in, as would Arbitrators (40K crime thriller, anyone? :D). Orks might present some challenges (them appearing to be short on sapience, and all that), but have lots of potential. Something about Kroot, separate from the Tau, is another option.

EDIT: Rogue traders, too.

Both series are good. I'd suggest Cain first.

Well the purity parts anyway. I say we let them have their bathing in nun blood and daemon weapons and say that the Grey Knights are actually the most corrupted bunch of space marines in the Imperium. Their just so in-bed with the inquisition that they aren't questioned.

Sounds good, but I do find the idea that just a single guy managed to kick the ass of a whole demon world and carve a name on the primarch and escape to fight even more to be utter [censored]. Seriously, that GK is officially more powerful than the Primarchs, which is crap. Hell, when the loyalists primarchs fought against the rebel primarchs, the fight often left both badly bruised and battered, with only a few of the loyalists even surviving the fight. [censored], even Dorn fell when he was holding the line against Chaos (he wasn't even struck down by one of the demon primearchs), and he was one of the better primarchs. Russ and Khan are still lost, and Mr. Perfect was killed by Fulgrim.

Yeah, I would really like to see some books on the eldar. Especially the Tyrannid attack on Iyaden, that would make a very good Black Library novel if you ask me.

Technically, it was two guys, one of them died in the fight. Still, Two dudes versus [censored] Mortarion??? Mortarion would wpe the floor with them, Grey Knights or not. Its just stupid, Chaos is a really cool faction in Wh40k, but they get the short end of the stick alot because of GW's love for the Imperium.
