Warhammer 40.000

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:37 am

I'm assuming some of ya'll are also fans of just Warhammer?

That's what I started on.. and then moved onto 40k. Bretonnia FTW.

Yep, as much as or moreso than 40k, once. Used to collect Dark Elves and Undead (and later Vampire Counts) back in the day.

Too bad that Warhammer is such an expensive hobby and I know non that play around here. Well, I do but she has no armies of herself. And for the price they ask of the models I would expect them to be metal, not plastic
(Plus I svck at painting :()

Any favourite weapons in Warhammer 40k?

Lasgun. 2+ on ammo rolls? It's a lifesaver.

Yes it's expensive, that is why I am getting out, they are pricing me out of the hobby. But put it this way. Going to a movie for 2, it's about $40 for 2 hours. While GW is expensive once you buy it, it lasts a long time for you. $80-$100 at Bingo, 2-4 hours of fun and that's it. Going out to the pub $20-$200 or more for 15 minutes-4 hours of fun. Computer games, $50-$60+ from 8-200+ hours of fun.

So while it is expensive you can have alot of worth out of it, unless you can't find anyone to game with.

Another way to look at it is, GW is like BMW, Mercedes etc. They are expensive cars and not everyone can afford it. GW will try and go as high as long as the market will bear it. Sadly for me, as I said before, they have priced me out of the hobby now. :(

I'm lucky that I'm one of those people who sticks to one army, and just constantly tweaks it. It's easier on my wallet than throwing money at every army that got a new army book/codex.

I think you may be the first. I haven't seen anyone with one army, they have 2, 3 or more. :D

I just putt along with my Empire army. It's fun, and allows me to hone strategies and tactics to a fine precision.

That actually kinda is my general strategy. Sorta. I'm very very infantry heavy. I mean, c'mon, 30 greatswords tromping towards you, with no flanks to exploit can be pretty scary.

I hear that there are people who make their own models though, in wood or metal. And only pay for the codex, paints and rulebooks

I should say: Make their own models "true to the lore" so to speak so they can use them in armies.

There are loads of templates for building tanks out of card for 40K. Makes things far cheaper imho. The one downside is the models aren't quite as detailed.

Cardboard :yucky:

I like metal so I'd like my models to be metal. Maybe I'll buy a few moulds and some tin

Favorite weapon of the 40k Universe?

Chain Axe and Bolter Pistol, because when you absolutly, positivly need some blood for the blood god, those two are your solution.

I am really hopeful for Space Marines, because it has a good studio working on it (Relic, the best studio for WH40k games), but the trailer I saw for it makes it look like an only okay shooter. I have high hopes.

Of course, I don't like that the whole game centers around Ultramarines. But of well. Blood Angels wouldve been better.

Dark Angels have always been my personal favourites but the Templar guys are interesting as well. Dark Angels are more in keeping with the futuristic yet gothic feel the 40k universe has. As long as the story is interesting Space Marine could be a good game, it could be a good opportunity for the Ultramarines to become a bit more interesting.

When I am gathering skulls for the skull throne I prefer dual wielding a chain axe and a chain sword. Khorne spits on ranged combat! :P
