Warhammer vs Greatswords vs Battleaxe

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 4:31 pm

This isn't necessarily about which is better, more so which do you prefer?

Personally, i'm a warhammer guy. I like the thought of a cute little lass wielding an unrealistic sized warhammer to smash face. Though they're a tad slow in Skyrim, they still pack a big punch.

You probably liked svckerpunch didnt you...?

Joking aside i like the speed of the sword and the crit bonus, i never really noticed the axe's bleedcing effect sadly...

Battleaxes baby! I love axes. Not sure why. I always love Vikings and Dwarves in fantasy too. It's all about the massive bearded lumps with enormous battleaxes.

Battleaxe > Warhammer > Greatsword for me.

My current character uses only Greatswords. He uses light armor, but without helms. No magic, no shouts. It makes for a very interesting game.

Greatsword. I'm sure I'm probably wrong, but it just seems like a dragon would be too well-armored to do much more than give it a concussion with a warhammer, while an axe doesn't seem like it'd hack deep enough. Greatsword? Stab it in the brain.

Swords.

It looks better, and the crit is much more situational than the Warhammer's ignore armor ability.

The Axe's bleed effect isn't such a great thing... it's more like a waste of perk.

I used a Skyforge Greatsword for most of the game on my guy, until I got to Ebony Smithing and decided to make a new weapon and finally invest in one of the trees, and I chose Warhammers. It just seemed to be the best, the enemies I most often had trouble with were big bandits in full heavy armor.

Greatsword primarily for aesthetic purposes. I generally stay away from two-handers though. Doesn't allow for much versatility.

I prefer the greatswords myself as the stance looks better visually to me, and I think the perked crit bonus makes up for the lesser on hit damage vs the other two.

Greatswords, because impaling someone through their gut is FUN.

I love warhammers. Too bad that smith at the SkyForge refuses to make sky-forged warhammers. Chump.

Warhammer, at least when I got my first one and was still playing 2H

I did switch to Sword as I also became a BattleMage part way thru 1st play.
Lydia uses a 50 power WarHammer as her strongest weapon. (it is now becoming a 1 hit (or 2) kill weapon for her - playing at novice level)

Yes, the finishing moves are almost half the fun for me.

My main character favors the battleaxe - just like old Ysgramor himself!
(Someone also commented that to my car. I think it was a guard)

That's pretty much a warhammer's point- just use brute force to break the bones underneath the armor, basically ignoring the armor this way

Not to mention an axe... is just a very sharp wedge attached to a long pole for leverage.

I like warhammers for their obscene damage, but carry great swords most frequently because of the kill animations. Nothing like seeing a helpless wizard impaled on the end of a sword, then flung off like a piece of wet garbage.

I chose warhammers because I just wanted the slowest and more powerful weapon for this character. My character is so good with it that he decapitates enemies with it. How he can do that clean cut through the neck with a blunt weapon... I don't know.

Swords look cooler though.

Interesting. Looks like all these weapon types are pretty balanced.

Warhammers, because they're such a bad ass weapon IRL.

You do realize that they exist IRL?

But yes, some do require a surprisingly hefty amount of strength to wield effectively. Nevertheless, they were one of the few counters to the invention of hardened steel armor.

I fell in love with warhammers ever since i got this

The guards even comment on it, saying something like "Thats one big hammer."
