We Warned You - Crysis 2 and the Consolitis Effect

Post » Sun Jan 25, 2009 5:41 pm

To all of you suffering from consolitis and poor design, you benefited by visiting the forums during the demo and listening for real to the people who know better. You all had hope, but we warned you about this, that the demo was no different from the final release and the game suffers from poor console design. Called us trolls, idiots, and evermore insulting words for warning you, but unfortunately you guys are the ones that look like idiots for purchasing an inferior product.

DX9 exclusive
Restricted Console
No Sandbox 3 Editor
No vehicles
No prone
No lean (MP)
Small scale 8v8 maps with horrible bloom
Encrypted files
No public dedicated servers
CoD inspired/cloned multiplayer with little thought
Scarce menu graphical customization
Singleplayer not worth $60
Low resolution textures
Excessive game breaking bugs
Multi-GPU Eplilepsy effect.

I purchased Far Cry, Crysis, and Crysis Warhead/Wars all on release day and freaking loved them. I saw this lead bullet coming a mile away and dang, I am so glad I didnt waste an overpriced $60 on this turd.

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T @ 3.3GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 @ 800MHz
Corsair 4GB 1600 8-8-8-24 RAM

Unfortunately, I did waste money on hardware, seeing that no game since 2008 seems to have utilized any of it. I am so sick and tired of these stupid console ports, and I am hugely disappointed in Crytek. I am severely disappointed in them, and very happy that I did not support their company with my $60 for launching a turd.

Hopefully Battlefield 3 can release something PC worthy, since it seems what used to be the most hardcoe PC devs called Crytek can't even match their own game from 2007.

PC gaming feels like a waste anymore... I hope BF3 can reverse this trend of turds.

Well, I warned you all, you didn't listen, and now you lost your money. I'm out of here, onward to support developers that can properly create PC games like Battlefield 3. I've supported you Crytek since 2004, but not anymore. Hopefully Cevat can pull his head out of his ass, but until then, no more financial support will be coming from me. Have fun with the 12 year old consolers, Crytek.

tl;dr

Although I remember you from the demo forums, you just say the same stuff over and over again. I'm enjoying this game so much, SP and MP. "We told you," as if your some kind of omniscient demo tester. Get off your throne, dude.

You told me nothing lol, the game is awesome.
I miss some things from Crysis1, but hey Crysis2 does some things better to.

Game is WAY better then I expected it to be, was no point really in me being a negative nancy now that I look back on it, because Ive had tons of fun all day with this game.

talon,

you are right. i know we had mentioned to many that the demo is what we will get. But no, people kept believing that the demo was a 360 port, that the textures svcked to keep demo size down to save bandwidth, that they threw the demo in last second because people wanted one.... ROFL. we heard it all. People kept saying have faith, dont complain until you see retail, its only a DEMO its not the full game! LOL...

and it feels pretty good to say i told you so.

I upgraded my PC in february in anticipation for this game. And it was a waste of money. not that i dont mind spending the cash, but in the world of PCs i could have bought my stuff 6 months later for bf3 and spent the same amount but get a much better overall PC. unfortunately i placed my faith in crytek and i got burned for it.

Kinda svcks that its getting rave reviews though. I guess crytek will be laughing their way to the bank. Kind of like what activision does with the crap of duty titles every 6 months.

I agree with every issue on the list. Crytek dropped the ball so that they could focus on making sure console users didn't feel left out. Unfortunately they left out PC users.

There is still some hope.

You can return the game on merits of false advertising, or the product not matching it's description!

You can do this since the game was advertised for DX11 by yours truly (Nathan Camarillo) and as of yet, does not have any DX11. This will work, I have heard of some people being able to return it for this very reason!

I wouldn't say DICE is completely capable of making a PC game, giving their track record with the BF series (bad servers, horrible hit detection, lots of glitches (especially titan mode in 2142).

True... They still focus on PC, that can't be denied since 2142 was PC exclusive, and they usually patch things before too long. :)

Well said, Talon. I saw this coming when they refused to show us any PC pics or video. Can't count how many timed they banned me for demanding that. I'm happy they didn't get a penny out of me. And they probably never will again. You want us back, Crytek, your going to have to show us something much better than Crysis Wars, cause truthfully, I don't trust you anymore.

The game is awesome. Since the OP hates it so much, why post in the form?

So we can agree with you?

Nope.

I'm enjoying it at the moment. More than Warhead I must say.

What now? Lol idiots.

You can continue to bich and moan while I enjoy the great game that Crysis 2 is.
It took a different direction but it is great.

and don't listen to these forum dwellers crytek, remember that the majority who liked the game are PLAYING the game. Also remember that those who like it aren't likely to come and post on this forum to say "awesome game crytek!". So the minority that are the haters are going to sound louder.
You want to see an unbiased statistic to see if your game is great? Sales. Needless to say it's the top selling on Steam right now.

You forgot to mention a few more things. Compared to Crysis 1's max native settings, Crysis 2's max native setting have...

more object pop-in
poorer shadow LOD
no parallax mapping
only a single AA option
fewer dynamic objects

It seems to me that what's ultimately driving the performance gains of Crysis 2 over Crysis 1 is that features that were present and activated in the first game at the highest settings have simply been turned off for the second game at the highest settings. Assuming the same sort of feature removal for successive generations of CryEngines and maybe in a few more CryEngine generations we'll be able to play the latest Crytek game at hundreds of thousands of frames per second by simply disabling so many features that what's left is something like the engine Carmack used for the 1993 release of DOOM. Well done guys!

The sandbox editor is supposed to come this summer. They said they were gonna release the full sdk for us. But if not why don't you guys just download the leak and use that editor? It is legal to download the leak if you own a retail copy. It's basically considered a backup.

That's not a Sandbox, its an SDK geared towards creating commercial games and doesn't include any assets. Crysis 2 is encrypted to the point where it has almost 0 modding capability, even if it does get an editor it will be useless.

I agree completely. Sad thing is Crytek is going to get BURNED! None of my console gamer friends know about this game. A few know that the original one had good graphics, but that it was only for PC. I really dont see sales being that high. God I hate pirates for at least partly making Crytek do this

Wow you guys are like salty high school girl friends.

Yeah Talon is like 16 but has been beta testing since 8 years old (search for a thread called introduce yourself) and I tried to put in 16 to enter gamesas.com and it won't even let you, so we have a kid coming here telling us why the game svcks and that he didn't buy it. Uh wouldn't you have to own the game to make your own opinion instead of blindly following the next moron who says "KRYTEK DUN FURGOT 'BOUT PC".

And notice his number of posts (2800+)....hes too busy telling everyone else what to do or how bad everything is to have a life or even play games, how did he get so much experience to know everything if all he does is Troll here.

Talon95 why don't you go to the local bar and complain to the patron's why whatever beer they choose is bad even though you've never drinken it since thats what your doing here...

Yah... 7.9 user review and I don't trust "professional" reviews anymore. They are all either bought out by the companies to make good reviews or they support the hype no matter how crappy it is.

CoD metascore shows it as a good game. User ratings show it for the **** it is, though.

Talon95,

I'm sorry if it bothers you, but I LIKE THE GAME. Do I care about any of the **** you listed? Not in the slightest: the game is fun in itself. And if there's something wrong with that, if all you care about is a game that looks good, then please... leave these forums as you said you would a month ago. The multiplayer is nothing like CoD and the singleplayer, while losing some of the sandbox feel of Crysis, is a very fun, very athletic-feeling 9 hours.

This forum is no longer a habitat for people criticizing the coming game. The game is here, rendering trolldom upon such naysayers as you.

Lol, never trust the stupid ratings sites. They're anything but neutral. They know who pays their salaries. As the forum, I have to agree. Its pretty much become a nest of mindless fanboys and console kiddies. Suits the new Crytek perfectly. Think Console! Think Crytek!

Game svcks, PC svcks now.

The days of being able to mod, and do cool things that made owning a high end pc worth while are long gone.

You can thank IPR, and lawyers for it.
