A Warning

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:18 pm

I got this warning when Initializing my mod at game start-up.

Dialogue "" type "Journal" tried to become type "Topic".

I am pretty sure this is a new warning.

Since it says "tried" does that mean it didn't become a topic? Or will a journal entry now show up in dialog?
I played through some of the mod, and it seems fine.

It says the same thing when opening in the CS. That's definitely new.
Any ideas, or know fixes?

Hey is this your first time with journal. EVERY Time i make something that has journal i get those. Then sometimes when i progress threw the quest in the CS it goes away.

Note it does not cause any problems.

@Peachykeen: You didn't have to wait long to make use of that link. There is another new thread in here that reminded me that we forgot to talk about cleaning dialog at the workshop. Oh well?

I've been making dialog for a long time, but this was the first time I ever had that warning.
I think it's because I forgot to clean the "EMPTY" dialog stuff away before testing my mod.

I just opened my mod in the CS, saved it, and it went away. :)

Yeah, I've got this warning many times. Even tho there were absolutely no topics with even similar name, but in game everything was working perfectly fine, so I don't think it's anything to worry about...

For those of you who did not click on peachykeen link ( their are a few). Thre reason this happens is becuase a journal and a topic were created under the same CS. To fix this you must reopen and reload your mod in the CS hit save and they go away.

Ok, that sentence barley makes sense, but I know what you mean. :P

I did some research on it, just for total coverage...
This Warning can also happen sometimes when you place the journal command at the first line of the dialog Resultbox. Saving in the CS again gets rid of it.
It's just one of those odd little harmless glitches.
Despite being somewhat common, today was my first time having it, so I felt a little panic for a minute. lol

I am unable to complete some quests because the prompts don't show up. For example I'm now at the point where Jauffre is supposed to tell me about
some spies in Bruma. Martin sent me to talk to him. He's a green arrow on the map. I go to him and he asks what he can do for me. No highlight about spies
or anything about a mission. I tried several times. I slept and tried the next day. I went back to Martin. Jauffre is still a green arrow but no promt for a
mission. There have been several other incidences with all types of different quests. In some cases I have quest items that the NPCs won't take. They even
ask for them and won't take them. I can't drop them of course. Sometimes I can go back and they eventually do sometimes I give up. What gives?

Not only are you in the wrong forum, (this is Morrowind) your question has nothing to do with the thread. ;)
You might want to ask in the OB forums. Good luck.

I think i had this pop up once or twice before. I've noticed if i just create a new topic sometimes this happens. I think it's basically saying that the new topic you created is trying to become a hyperlink like somethin you can click on via dialogue but for some reason it doesn't work or a topic you can select in your journal but b/c the topic is empty there is nothing there like u said. I've only ever noticed though when testing mod from a previous save that already had the mod saved which might cause bugs like that to happen. I'm not sure though.

If you read through thread, and notice the dates, you'll see the problem was resolved long ago.

It's just a harmless error from having -EMPTY- Topics/Journals leftover after you make new ones.
