WARNING! 1.3 update breaks the GECK

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 6:35 pm

Yep, UK calling and telling you that the GECK is not and never has been in Steam Tools for us.

Apart from that...my game is working even after the new patch, since I grabbed NVSE latest update as well.

Yep, as you said, the website version is now updated.

I DL'd it and zip file still says version 1.1, plus the geck.exe has the same date as the one I already have. Is that right?

Figured it out. I was using a URL/bookmark that ended in .html, not .php. Everything else in the URL was the same but that last bit...changed it and success, version 1.3 :)

I'm having to re-install the game now though, hoping it's not a problem with the game after using the new GECK, I've tried running the game again but even with no mods installed and using Steam instead of FOMM the game crashes at start up. Re-downloading now from Steam so fingers crossed

When you run the new geck for the first time it moves the main fallout esm file to the bottom of the esm, this is causing the ctd you are having.

Cheers but I've already moved it, also it was crashing whether or not I had mods installed, I'm re-installing to see if that corrects things

I updated, it now loads and works fine.

I am still going to go scream into a pillow since the other issues weren't fixed.

The link I posted goes to 1.3 on the official Bethesda site, no need to use mirrors, 1.3 is on the New Vegas site http://fallout.gamesas.com/eng/downloads/geck.php

First, yeah I'm unable to do anything in the GECK after yesterdays patch.

Second, here's a list of the tools I have in Steam, no New Vegas GECK here.

No it doesn't. We still don't have error reporting. And GECKPU needs to be updated. So that means extra fun times looking for the syntax errors that NVGECK is invisibly throwing a fit over. Maybe if error reporting was enabled from the start, we wouldn't need GECKPU to enable them. How did Obsidian manage to get by without script compile error reports?

At least we ascertained that the interior cell loading bug was due to a missing INI setting...

The guy that does the GECKPU hasn't been active since dec 17.

Yeah, I don't see why anyone would need mods. If the game still plays, stop crying.

On which planet do you leave ?

Most player use mods for Fallout New Vegas, and a lot of modders are actually making mods, giving their talent and time for players and community.
If you don't bother about mods, why are you answering in a geck topic, uh ?

Does anyone else feel like the PC community, and modders in general, are getting gipped a bit by this?

I can't put my finger on it, but it seems to me that gamesas should know that their PC base is going to be running mods and using G.E.C.K., and should be planning their updates accordingly.

As in, don't patch the game until G.E.C.K. can run it?

It seems like such a common sense thing to do in my humble opinion, which is why when gamesas doesn't do it, it feels like a snub in our direction.

I don't know, maybe its just me.

In the meantime, I'm forced to find other ways to spend my leisure time, which svcks because I was looking forward to playing around tonight.

I personally have disabled Steam's auto-updater. This incident will not be repeated if I can help it.

I disabled the steam auto-updater before the update. After the patch came out I went to play FNV and it started giving me an error that it couldn't find the directory that FalloutNV.exe was in

I clicked play again and Steam forced me to update so I wouldn't count on that working

Okay, can folks keep letting me know whether or not you see GECK - New Vegas Edition in the tools. Might be helpful to know where in the world you're located.

To get to Tools, click on Library, then from the drop box below it, select TOOLS.

Nothing here. I'm in the UK.
