Warp in the West?

Post » Sat Nov 23, 2013 10:30 am

When did the Warp in the West begin? I thought it happened because Numidium was activated, but the totem that decides who is able to wield it is given to someone before the Mantella is retrieved and Numidium activated. So did the Warp start before then? Then what caused it?

The totem says that only someone of the bloodline of Tiber Septim is able to wield it, listing those people as the Underking, Gortwog, King Eadwyre, Queen Akorithi, the King of Worms, King Gothryd, and Uriel Septim. What is meant by this? Is it saying that all these people are somehow related to Tiber? That can't be right as not even Uriel is a direct descendant of him.

Isn't Talos just formed of Tiber/Zurin/Wulfharth?

[post 1008]: The Tharnatos, or death-impulse of the Talos-actuated Shipstar Amulet, chose them. Princess Barenziah was the inverse Paravant, blessed with the hypnopompic rites to end the Late-Middle Dawn of the Empire of Evil. Martin was the final tone of the coda ringing out. And from the later demi-Hasphat, as always telling it how it isn't:

Talos also mantled Lorkhan/Shezzar/Shor. So he's much more.

Wait, so Tiber Septim in the books is a mythical character made up of several people including the real Tiber Septim?

All of that is true except "the real Tiber Septim" part.

Have you played Oblivion and it's two key expansions?

It's sort of like that.

The Player is the Champion of Cyrodiil is the Hero of Kvatch is The Divine Crusader is Sheogorath.

Think that mentality but apply it to Tiber/Talos.

That'd be the opposite, wouldn't it? CoC, HoK, DC and Sheo are the same person but are seen as different characters. In this case, aren't many different characters seen as the one guy?

Wulf is an avatar* of Talos, yes. As for whether or not Talos is like Ysgramor... I don't think we know enough about Ysgramor to really say, to be honest. The "realistic" explanation for Ysgramor is just that there were a lot of great kings in the early days of the Return that were conflated into one character in myth and story, and Talos's conflation is a little more literal than that. But since this is a world in which myth is literal, and (as already noted) we don't actually know anything about Ysgramor beyond his name and a few stories about him, it's impossible to say right now if there are similarities between the two of them or not. I wouldn't be surprised to find some connections.

*There's every possibility that I've used the wrong word here. I'll apologize in advance if so.

Yes, but to the outsider, would they be able to distinguish between the Divine Crusader and Sheogorath? Whose to say in 200 years if the Hero of Kvatch is associated with the Champion of Cyrodiil? Heck, there's arguments to be made that the Sheogorath from Skyrim is not the Champion of Cyrodiil from Oblivion.
