Warrior Mage - Advice?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 5:38 pm

I'm currently about 22 hours into Skyrim (22 incredible hours might I add) and I'm trying to focus my character as a bit of a split between warrior and mage
He's level 25 now and I have a few questions

1) This is my primary question. *SPOILERS POSSIBLE*

I've completed the college of winterhold quest and have acquired the Archmage robes for some time now, as well as this, my smithing is high enough that I've also acquired daedric armour.
I'm trying to decide on which of these for being my primary apparel; after reading about the fact that regeneration is not affected by robes during combat I question whether or not the lack of armour is worth the magicka bonuses acquired from the archmage robes. Do you suggest that I primarily use daedric armour instead? Or possibly enchant it for some magical bonuses as well? If so how would you go about this?

2) Which sort of skills would prove most useful to this sort of character
At this point I've been focusing primarily on One Handed (52) Conjuration (Around 47?) And Destruction (Also around 47) but have also recently been working on heavy armour and block for those close counter melee encounters. My question is essentially which skills could prove most useful in the future and what perks are best suited to the warrior mage role and finally is there any specific method of playing you would recommend for this character?

I didn't read any of your post save for the title and first sentence, due to the fact that I didn't finish the mage's quest. However, my advice is to pump up your destruction and restoration, and invest points in heavy armor and two handed weapons, as warhammers make short work of p**Wimpy**y mages while they prance around in their girly dresses! *In character, don't take my tone against mages seriously!*

Ah cheers mate! That sounds like a good idea actually, but so far melee-wise I've been using just swords and 1h weapons because it allows me to either cast spells with my left hand or wield a shield. Do you think 2h would provide a more suitable advantage?

1. I would say to go with armor.
2. Everything apart from destruction, since that skill is currently broken. Restoration, alteration, and summoning are the ones to come to mind.

If you're going full mage you need all the magicka boosting you can get, which is why most robes focus on that. You completely lose defense though, obviously. If you are going to wear armor then you need to swing a weapon as much as you cast, to balance your magicka constraints and do more damage since you're going to get hit.

I have a sneaky spellsword. I focus on destruction, restoration, light armor, one-handed and sneak. I sneak around most dungeons and try to get a one-hit stealth kill when I can. When spotted I start hurling fireballs from a distance, then when the enemy closes in (if they make it) I can hit them with the sword and put healing on my left hand.

1. Use light dragon armour or daedric armour. Yes enchant them will added magicka. And spell reduction cost.
2. This build:

One handed
Heavy armor (since u are already doing this)
Conjuration
One other spell class (not destruction unless u really want it if u do ask me how to fix broken problem)
Enchanting

Id say go with the armor and get 100 enchanting, then you can enchant alot of + mana and mana cost reduction on your gear.

I'm using a similar style and I've gone for light armour since it means more stamina for when things get personal.

I find it tough knowing what to put perks into, I've distributed them between 7 trees up to now and I'm level 28 so it's time to start getting more specific and I don't know where to begin.

The problem I have too is that I've began to really enjoy archery, and I haven't put a single perk in that tree. Basically I'm [censored] but i refuse to start again this far in.

Hope to get some tips from your thread too, but don't take any from me as I've royally [censored] my character
