Was Azura responsible for the fall of the Dwemer and the Hou

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:26 am

I got that feeling when reading the book "Azura and the Box." http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Azura_and_the_Box

I got the feeling that the Dunmer who summoned her was of House Dagoth and it was her curse and fury that was ultimately responsible for their downfall.

Don't take what Marobar Sul writes as being true.

As for the dwemer, their disappearance is entirely their own doing. With House Dagoth, that was also Dagoth Ur's own doing.

Maybe. We don't rightfully know if she had any involvement with the disappearance of the Dwarves. Some accounts say she showed up when Kagrenac used the Tools on the Heart of Lorkhan and made them vanish. Certainly not the only theory on their disappearance though.

The Nerevarine is responsible for the fall of House Dagoth. Azura certainly did guide the Nerevarine though, so in a way, yes.

I know that, but get the feeling that there might have been her guiding hand in there somewhere.. I guess I am reading too much into it though.

She did sorta force Kagrenac's hand, if Nerevar's consultations with her are to be believed. While she might not have known what her actions would have done, I think she was intending to stop the Dwemer from doing what they were doing. It remains to be seen whether she was successful or not.

I think this is one story we can look on with a touch more faith, considering the publisher's note. As we all know, the depth of Azura's need for vengeance is great indeed. Being tricked by a mortal would, no doubt, cause her to seek some sort of retribution. And the fact that the publisher specifically calls him a priest of an unnamed House does make one suspect House Dagoth.

That having been said, posters above are right. The Dwemer are responsible for their own fate, as was House Dagoth. But I would be unsurprised if Azura somehow...exacerbated their respective dilemmas, even if over something as petty as this.

Question: Is there suffering?

Question 2: Is it on or around Morrowind or does it concern any race that's traditionally made it their home?

If you answered yes: Azura is probably either directly or indirectly responsible.

I've just about come to the conclusion she simply hates everyone who ever lived there. Except the Nords for some reason.

I can't believe anyone could come away from Morrowind and talk about Azura as the "benign deity" directing events. Did they play the same game as I did? Never have I come across such a petty, manipulative and jealous deity in popular fiction before.

Compared to the machinations of Sheogorath and Dagoth Ur, all she did was provide a catalyst. It was Dagoth Ur's actions that prompted Vivec to ally with the Nerevarine and have the enchantments on the Heart desteroyed. And if anyone was responsible for Almalexia's descent into madness, it'd be Sheogorath, who's also responsible for Landfall. In fact, if she hadn't warned Nerevar, who knows what would have happened to the Chimer. Similarly, if she hadn't brought Nerevar back, Dagoth Ur would've won.

Or perhaps Vivec manipulated Azura into bringing Nerevar back. We do know that Vivec is an ally of the Septim line and a close friend of Uriel VII. Who might have told Uriel about the prophecy? Who else might have known the power of the Prisoner? He isn't stupid; any transcendental with eyes can see the implications of the events of Arena and Daggerfall. Vivec was also responsible for Landfall, I think, but I haven't read that book.

No one person/god/entity is responsible for the fall of Lie Rock (which is not Landfall. MK and others have spoken a lot about that lately.) It was more a collaborative effort.

And in MK's "Fall of Ald'Ruhn" sketch winged twilights are clearly shown descending on the Redoran warriors. Those daedra are not Mehrunes Dagon's pets. They are Azura's. I truly believe she hates the Dunmer and wants to constantly test and punish them.

How is it even partially Azura's fault though? Sure it would be revenge, but I don't think she had the means nor the power to make Vivec disappear. Especially right after being banished.

Perhaps, but the allegiances of Daedra are ambiguous at best, and I recall them being a normal sight at any Daedric shrine in Morrowind. And in the aftermath of what Vivec did, how would Azura's servants be able to get to Tamriel if her realm was inaccessable?

Does her realm being inaccessible from Tamriel, mean that Tamriel is inaccessible from her realm? I don't think one has to imply the other.

I get the feeling that she was ultimately fulfilling the velothi prophecy, with a bit of petty curses and suffering on the side.

That's easy. They came through Mehrunes Dagon's realm, the Deadlands. Moonshadow is closed to Nirn, but that doesn't mean its closed to the other oblivion realms. Indeed, Sul managed to arrive in Azura's realm via another Oblivion realm. I'm sure she was glad for a visitor.

EDIT:
I kinda had a thought that Vivec might have zero-summed after being captured by Mehrunes Dagon's servants during the Oblivion crisis. The dremora may have escorted him from the palace to the Deadlands, where he would await Azura's servants to be escorted to Moonshadow and killed/tortured by Azura. As a last jest, right before being handed over to Azura, he might have released his greedy hold on his individual identity to mock and frustrate Azura one last time. Laughing as he faded into nothing.

No real evidence for this of course. Just how I imagine Vivec's going. Though who knows? Maybe he decided to travel with the Nerevarine to Akavir? Or maybe he just zero-summed unintentionally while meditating in his palace?

I think that Azura's realm is inaccesible for mortals, but she could still travel at will.
After what happened with Vivec its like she installed a home security system, to keep people out.

Sul got in, though. Not to mention he's her unwilling slave at this point, even while on Nirn.

I thought that Trial story had him achieving Amaranth at the end.

I will say that, CHIM or not, there is no evidence that either Talos nor Vehk achieved Amaranth. If they did, Tamriel would be in their rearview mirror.

This is what MK says about it in the Shor Son of Shor thread. The very nature of these beings must be mysterious -- their endings and their beginnings are simply not to be known for certain. It's possible he did achieve Amaranth at the end of the Trial. It's also possible the Nerevarine slew him before the end of the Main Quest of Morrowind.

Not that it would've done much to a god. See how well it worked out for Dagoth Ur when the Nerevarine slew him before entering the heart chamber?

And after exiting the heart chamber, perhaps.

Technically it's just one book, the Infernal City. Part 2 won't be out till September.

And come on dude. It's 2011. Order it from this magical thing called the interweb which I suspect you've used before.

Did you just say somebody was more badass than Divayth Fyr?

I think something is supposed to happen, not sure if it's the moderators job or not - I'm wanting to say its a stoning, but I thought it was more severe than that.
