Anyway...this is kinda what the guy said
On Skyrim
- skyrim is just a mish-mash of poor mechanics pretending to be a satisfying whole. and on top of that, accessible
- i disagree, morrowind was not, but releasing games based on the exact same template. pretty run of the mill and unoriginal if you ask me
- i mean really, how many times are they going to make us do the same quests across multple games? and i thought zelda was bad for recycling content. lol
On Morrowind and Oblivion
- :it was the better game, deeper, less hand holding, less new player friendly, less....crap
- but you're saying that only with experience with oblivion (n00bified) and what you've seen of skyrim (even more n00bified). ingnorance is bliss as they say?
- so the enemies that levels with you, or the objective markers, or fast travel, or the simplified stat alocation didnt feel like the game was holding your hand?
- i guess you had to come from greener pastures, from a better game (morrowind) to understand
- oblivion was to morrowind, what dragon age 2 was to origins ( I HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHLY DOUBT THIS...lol)
- the enemies that leveled with you, where you could take on an oblivion tower at lvl 0 and it would be just as chalenging at lvl 30? what about that? whats the point in ven having a lvling system when everythng adapts to you anyway? utterly pointless.
- but then you think oblivions system is the norm, hence why you see no issues with it. i like RPGs to have designated areas that have set skill lvl's, something to fight towards
- better yorself to tackle the situation. if enemies adapt to your level, where they can be killed as easily at lvl 0 as lvl 30, then why even have a lvl system? it makes it redundant
So i simply told him i didn't have any problems with what he called problems in Oblivion. Enemies levelling with me? Hell..i guess i never noticed cause plenty of times Oblivion proved to be quite a challenge for me, some frustrating moments even during combat and such. I am glad about the objective markers, without it...i would have probably never have gotten as far as i have now. Fast travel? Nobody is forcing anyone to use fast travel, it's there..when you want it. When i had just gotten Oblivion i didn't go anywhere near that option..i kept exploring and exploring, but when i was tired of that, i used the fast travel. And Skyrim's fast travel will even cost money...noobified? My ass!
I don't know what he's talking about with the Oblivion tower ...but the Oblivion gates were difficult enough imo..nothing wrong with that. Hated them though, lol.
I told him people are talking about Morrowind as if it was the holy grail ,as if nothing was wrong with it and that Oblivion and Skyrim are gonna be soooooooooo dumbed down now. I feel people are exeggerating greatly. I gave the guy an example about Morrowind lacking a fast travel system. He called it good, it forced you to travel trough the diverse landscapes and what not. I know for sure that this kind of thing would start to ANNOY bigtime after awhile. Take Risen for example..the island is NOWHERE near as big as Cyrodiil, but it already started to annoy me alittle when i still didn't had any means of teleportation or fast travel. Forcing the player to do something in a game...is never a good thing in my opinion, and again...nobody is forcing you to use fast travel...use it whenever you want , or not at all.
So my question i guess is simple.....am i seeing it the wrong way, or is this guy completely wrong? Plus he's already fully judging a game that isn't even out yet. I love how some people try to talk down on a game, caling it's predecessor much much better, and they come up with such nonsense as fast travel killing Oblivion..what nonsense. Sure..if the game forced you to do that. Like Morrowind basically forced the player to travel on foot, cause there was no other way. But fast travel is fine....the developer gives the player the chance to go somewhere quickly if he/she wants that, instead of forcing them to press on..and who knows..maybe eventually they'll quit? Choice is much better..fast travel is a choice..nothing more, nothing less.
