Was hoping for no aiming with spells..

Post » Fri Jun 10, 2011 9:07 pm

We should have swords that auto aim too and shields that block all by themselves at the exact right time. Sometimes it's hard to make my sword hit my target when they move and having to press a button at the right time to make sure the enemy doesn't hit me is tough.
I mean, the Arena series is good and all but it needs a few tweaks.

I'd rather have no auto-aim, it gets in the way.

See this is the problem. Instead of improving yourself, you expect the game to work for you. That's where the game ceases to be challenging or fun.

Thats fine but what if you're partially disabled in one hand? I dont expect any sympathy or any game publisher/developer to accommodate my demographic which is why i was hoping to have it as an option, future perk or something. thats all. In morrowind and oblivion i create large diameter spells that helped and i was just hoping for something else as an option.

Why didn't you mention this in your OP??? Now I feel like [censored] :(

The magnetism feature should help you a 'lil, it's not auto aim, but it's better than nothing

Umm.. of course you have to aim spells, what did you want, spells that you cast then they automatically go to the nearest creature?

Says it all really.
I dont really mind auto-aim, as long as it can be turned off.

YES!
And we should all start at level 50, with all dragon shouts unlocked from the start.
Damn, I hope some devs are reading this.

to those discussing the chain lightning: Yeah but those spells are supposed to do that in nature. It is it's nature to bounce and arc off of objects/enemies to go to the next target. Splash damage and spell-specific qualities is not the same as auto-locking every spell or attack. I still see no issue in this being an option in the menu system to be changed by those who do need it. Some people just aren't as good at games and there is nothing wrong with that nor does it mean they should not be allowed to play because their skills are lower.

Indeed, why didn't you mention this earlier?

There are always ways to set up extra time for accuracy. A paralyze rune can be placed right in an enemies pathway, and when he is ensnared, you'll have time to aim.

Circle of Protection and Demoralize also send the enemy running in fear, and when they come back, you'll be ready.

Well if you plan on getting Skyrim for the PC, you could get a mouse with extra re-programmable buttons on it and then bind the movement keys to it, so that you are able to move your character, and look around, with the same hand.

You guys are forgetting about the "magnetism" that was confirmed a while back in one of the OPSM things. I personally don't remember the details of whether it was for ranged attacks too, but that could be a possibility.

This. Hopefully Bethesda doesn't listen to people like you and streamline it even more

THIS!

EDIT:
I'm already annoyed with magnetism. I think I'm fully capable of directing my attacks toward my enemy thank you.

just saw the latest vids from E3 and that was my major peeve with all the oblivion series..that you have to aim spells and looks like you still need to.

Oh well..game looks amazing otherwise...cant wait!

They haven't released any compilation of data yet, but the little we know I can share:

Chain Lightning will bounce off of walls, allowing a better chance to hit targets.
Circle of Protection will likely injure the Undead targets as well
Paralysis spell confirmed
Demoralize almost certainly guaranteed
Burden effect (Anything that prohibits movement) almost certainly guaranteed
Rune traps

And then the various Dragon Shouts you've seen:
Slowing time (Very nice for you)
Knockback (Seems to have a wide cone of attack)
Flame Breath (Again, wide cone of attack)
Lightning Storm (Guaranteed hits, only outdoors though)

As long as you use the spells creatively, you'll do fine

Well if your mouse has 4 extra buttons on it that you can reprogram, you could set them to WASD (each one a different key.) I believe this could solve your problem, or at least help.

yeah im not worried ive been gaming like this for over a decade and ive got a system down, its the multi-tasking that gets a bit challenging at times, ie, block, dodge, aim, shoot, etc. in any case i finished both morrow and obliv so im sure ill handle skyrim.

You know the spell combinations they're trying out? Perhaps Detect Life + any offensive spell makes it a homing projectile.

lol, kinda funny how people who were flaming someone they thought was just being a noob are now trying to help out the guy with the messed up hand. perception can really change how you react to something. As for auto-aim as long as i can toggle it off and its initially set in the off position im fine with it.

I think the lesson here is: don't be a dike, even if you disagree with someone. The lack of civility around this place is shameful.

As for a lock on system, I can see why people don't like it, but I think it also has some nice advantages. I'm thinking of Zelda on the Nintendo 64, where you could hold down a trigger to lock on to an an enemy. What this meant is that while you were locked on, Link would constantly face the enemy front on; moving around wouldn't mean that you weren't facing the enemy front on. It's a useful way of keeping focused on an enemy. It does have a downside: when there are multiple enemies around, it may not be so useful to lock on to a single enemy.

yes exactly they have this as well in TW2 and DA2. Some games also offer 'cycle thru targets' or something similar as well. its there if you want to use them but dont have to.
