Was the skyrim gameplay all gameplay?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 12:49 pm

I couldn't find a thread on this so i'm just wondering. Was every part of the skyrim game play in game footage? Like when he almost goes of the cliff and you see the characters hands in front of him catching his balance? I hope it is haha.

As far as we all know, all of it was real-time footage from in-game. The first-person dragon shots were just done through changing the point of view.

People say that it is, but I don't think the entire thing is gameplay. Maybe most of it.

But I mean the part where the dragon is overhead and he slashes it as it flies by... I find it hard to believe that that's gameplay.

It was all rendered using the live in-game engine.

Whether any of the footage (or how much of it) was scripted for the trailer.... who knows.

I liked the cliff part. Makes the game look more like a first person shooter, though.

As I've said before in numorous threads months ago;

Yes, it's gameplay. Pete Hines confirms this via Twitter.

The camera is just shot at different angles. And they've been working on dragons for 2 years.. And the fact that's it 2011 and a whole new engine, that kind of gameplay is easily possible.

Minus the footage of the wall, of course.

I have a feeling some of it was cinematic. But I'm hoping it wasn't.

It's obviously not gameplay. But it's rendered with the in-game engine. :disguise:

This. There were some parts that I have a really hard time believing is actual gameplay. Not because I have low expectations when it comes to the developers, but simply because they seem utterly impossible to actually pull off in-game.

Those of you who believe that it was all real gameplay-footage needs to get a bit more realistic.

The stuff with the nord running to the cliff and then screwing around with the dragon were obviously not gameplay. We arn't that gullible Bethesda.

The rest probably was though. And it looks good, especially the stuff involving daggers.

I can bet some animation parts (the dragonborn slowly raising his head before the shout, the cliff edge dizziness) are cinematic. The actual fighting scenes may be all gameplay, but they are captured from different encounters and from impossible angles, our actual experience may be less spectacular. For a teaser trailer it was very nice, but I'm more interested in seeing fluid gameplay of Todd fighting a dragon in 1st person, from the beginning to the soul absorbtion.

According to Pete, none of it was scripted. Everything you saw in the trailer is supposedly what happens in Skyrim, so the bobbing when you sprint and what not.

Seems like it is most likely just the animation to get up from being staggered/knocked down since supposedly none of the trailer was scripted.

I like to believe it's gameplay, I mean if it wasn't the journalists who saw a full dragon battle in the press demo would have been disappointed if the real battle was very different from the trailer battle.

Yes.

Apart from the thing that was in the teaser that was mixed in, and the camera angles were also customly done.

The dragon battle was scripted, everything else was gameplay.

edit: Just to clarify, I'm sure dragon battles will be just as epic as they were portrayed, but for cinematic purposes Bethesda probably controlled what the dragon did.

Yeah, most of it was gameplay, but the dragon battle was surely not.
