Kind of bummed me out today when I came up on a family that was just murdered by raiders. I ended up killing all the raiders but I really wish I could have saved the family.

That is funny because I failed a quest because I waited too long to find some random guys father who was kidnapped. I got a message that said FAIED because I waited too long . I kind of like that how you are on a time constraint for some quests.
eurgh.
i HATE timed missions.
i dont like, or want, to be rushed into having to go to areas either far beyond my exploration radius or experience level.
this game just went down a notch because of learning that stuff can fail if you dont make a bee-line for it instantly.
:/
infact ive just spent 10mins thinking about it and the more and more i think about it, the more and more it [censored] svcks.
basically every single mission i get from now on, im going to feel i have to rush to complete them.
that feeling, or even thought of potentially having that feeling when i next play, [censored] svcks.
it completely goes again the way i play all bethesda games.
i cant remember any timed quests in previous modern fallout games, or elder scrolls games.
i would get a quest then explore all the content inbetween the source and destination at a methodical pace. thoroughly exploring each new area or location i encountered.
i dont want to rush through locations, not exploring them on the off-chance that the mission might fail.
im livid and not looking forward to playing now. :/
These we just the dynamic side missions, I'm sure there are not a lot of them. But if someone says oh may dad is kidnapped and may be killed any minute, that should be a timed mission. You shouldn't be able to wait a day or two in game time to go find and save him. That is not realistic.
Also you can always just reload you last save if you come up on a mission like that and just not talk to the person unless you are ready to do that side quest.
I have put over 40 hours into the game and this is the first timed mission I ran into.
Welp, we can't all be pleased, right? That was one thing I missed from past games, timed mission. Not all of them, but where it makes sense.
Time sensitive missions are few and far between, but at least when they happen, it makes sense.
If someone is in genuine danger, best not to put it off in the first place. Reminds of Dues Ex: Rev and how the beginning game play portion had a time cap despite how it seemed like you had all the time in the world.
If you're asked to rescue someone who is kidnapped, I kinda like that you can't just walk away for 30 hours and then come back to it. There shouldn't be a hard time constraint to it (meaning a literal timer), but there should exist a chance that the missions will be "resolved" one way or another. However, the game should make it clear that this *IS* a possibility.
