Feral Ghoul Reavers, hands down, are the hardest ever. Give me 25 Deathclaws over one of these guys.

Reavers. They are likely to be encountered with a group of allies, are very fast, possess a nasty lunge attack, and importantly also have a ranged attack.

I've got to say Reavers too. I was trapped, while scavenging, in an abandoned Vault with about 20 of them. That's where I got my name. At least that's what they told me when I woke up in Megaton....

This! Everything else has a weapon or a technique that works against them**, but those damn NPCs with attitude that are set to essential and cannot be dealt with are the worst. (I'm looking at you Shrapnel!).

**oh, I take that back. Those awful aliens in MZ when they decide it's time to be super-unbeatable aliens. :shakehead:

@Llama- Y'know, I thought Shrapnel was an okay guy until you smartened me up to his ways. Flak was the one I didn't like. You know what would be fun? Take Shrapnel to MZ as a follower, put on the Chinese Stealth Suit and sneak through the Living Quarters. Tell him to wait there with the Abominations and sneak out. He can orbit with those freakazoids for eternity :D

For shear hp it was albino rad scorpions, but the super mutant overloard with a tri beam is actually harder to kill IMO.

Yep, Albinos soak up a huge amount of ammunition. Overlords are harder than Albinos because even though it takes a lot to kill an Albino you can do so without taking damage by keeping your distance, and you can't do that with Overlords. Plus those tri-beams can do a pretty good amount of damage pretty quickly, in part because some of the damage Overlords deal with them is not blocked by DR.

I still vote for Reavers though. So in order from hardest to easiest IMO:

1 - Reavers
2 - Overlords
3 - Behemoths
4 - Death Claws
5 - Albinos

I know it might seem weird that DCs rate higher than Albinos despite having a fraction of the HP, because as mentioned above Albinos can be dealt with without taking any damage pretty easily, while DCs are a lot more likely to be able to close the distance before you can finish them off. In truth, there are lots of creatures that should be in the list above Albinos, including most of the higher level people and critters that have ranged attacks, but Albinos make the list anyway just because the sheer amount of damage they soak up makes them annoying. I'm not sure where aliens fall in the bunch, I don't recall having any trouble with any of them, but I've also only gone through MZ once while I've been exposed to everything in the list above many many times.

I play on normal hardness on the PC and for some reason I never back up when I’m in a fight. I may shift position side to side for a better angle, or even move forward, but not backward. That’s not necessarily a good thing.

Never had a Death Claw get to me. My stealth characters take them out with 1, 2 or 3 Vats head shots. They are the easiest big game to kill IMO. Sometimes I shoot them from afar so they will come to me, then kill them with 2 or 3 Vats head shots. That way I don’t have to walk far to get their hand thing.

I shoot Albinos at long range too, just to get them to come to me. I usually free shoot for a while, reload, then give them a full load in Vats - two or three shots at a time. They take about a clip and a half from the A3-21 Plasma Rifle to kill. They do get to me sometimes, but one stem pack takes care of that. Two or more of them can be a problem, so I generally locate myself on a tall rock or bluff before I start shooting. For what it’s worth, I’ve found that if you shoot Albinos in the stinger two shots at a time in Vats, then repeat, that it seems to do more damage than unloading the whole string at once. A sniper rifle will kill them a extreme range after 10 to 15 rounds while they are running around in circles looking for you.

Reavers are hard to kill with stealth Vats head shots, so I usually give them a couple in Vats then free shoot till they go down. One clip from the A3-21 usually does the trick. They’re more frightening than they are dangerous.

Behemoths, the fire hydrant monsters, are special characters, and each one is different in what is the best way to kill them. There’s not enough of them to really establish a good killing relationship. I’ve killed them with sniper rifles, mini nukes, missile launchers, and piles of land mines. And yeah, my second play through character got wasted at GNR because she didn’t back up.

Overlords, well they’re the Overlords, and do a lot of damage before you can kill them. They’re not that hard to kill, but they can take my level 30 character down 50% very quickly in the initial engagement if they have a Tri-Beam. They can’t kill me before I kill them, but it sure is exciting in the tween. I guess they are the hardest to kill, except for the bullet sponge Behemoths which are like moving mountains with a Tonka truck.

Way back when I bought the Game of the Year disc with the DLC on it, I cheated and read up on the Wiki about Point Lookout. It said that some of the Swamp Folk were hard to kill. Sooo…I took 2 repaired Fat Mans and over a hundred Mini-Nukes. Didn’t have any problems except for about killing myself when I shot at some of them too close. Other play throughs there have had no problem while using the A3-21 Plasma Rifle.

Vertibirds are illusive targets, but not too hard to kill if you can shoot straight. If you can get on them quickly, then 10 or 12 shots from a good Plasma Rifle will ground them.

Every thing else is generally a one shot affair in the vanilla game.

With FWE the sentry bots are the biggest pain outdoors and indoors when they have a clear path. They are worst at mid range where they will surely mow you down instantly or paste you with a rocket that is too close to dodge. But even from a mid far distance their miniguns will cut you in half very quickly while you are running away screaming for a miracle. Their weakness is pathing, where they are stopped by the landscape or an obstacle is in their way so they can't get to you. Atom help you if you run into one inside and the door locks behind you.

Thank goodness we are PC users then :)

I recall that once, just before activating the Purifier, I took Dr. Li's reference through console, set her unessential, and killed her. Har har har.

Reavers win, but overlords are a close second due to the fact they kill me faster.

Feral Ghoul Reavers, definitely. They can hit really hard both melee and ranged, and like Super Mutant Overlords and Albino Radscropions have tons of health points.

Overlords aren't as difficult if you shoot their weapon (Tribeam Laser or Gattling Laser in particular) and use the Dart Gun to cripple them.

Albinos aren't as difficult either if you use the Dart gun to cripple. They only have a melee attack that can be avoided if your fast enough, and they can't climb rocks and things well. Also I with a Death Claw Guantlet they seem to go down pretty easily.

Deathclaws can be handled with the Dart Gun.

Sentrybot can be tough, but robotics perk and pulse grenades and mines can take care of them, if you can avoid their weapons. Frenzying Sentrybots can be fun.

Behemoths are pretty straight forward with the Dart Gun, because they have melee only attacks and you can outrun them or jump on something then fire down.

And those are the super monsters.

So definitely Feral Ghoul Reavers, in my opinion.
