Wasted potential with certain followers.

Now, I realize it was not Beth's focus to provide fewer, more interesting companions, but did they have to give us companions who had great potential, but were never fully fleshed out?

Erandur comes to mind first:

Spoiler
The former follower of Vaermina turned priest of Mara. The quest he was involved in was great, he is voiced by the same guy as Joshua Graham, and he constantly comments about his life. He often says about how he has spent the majority of his life in Skyrim, but do we have the option to find out anything about his life during that time? No, we do not. At best he comments on how he was once a member of the Bard's College until they found out about his Vaermina worship. That's all. What about the challenges he faced growing up as a Dunmer in Skyrim? What about the details of his Vaermina worship and how he became one of his/her priests? What about his skill in magic? Why did he choose Mara over the other eight divines? Sure, I could fill in these details myself, but it just seems odd that Beth wouldn't take SOME time trying to flesh him out a bit more, he already has the skin, like most of Skyrim's character. But he also has bone, something that a lot of Skyrim's followers lack. But why not take the extra step and give him organs, a heart, a mind, a soul?

Its sad really. These interesting people, and you're only possible interactions are:

Carry my [censored].

Go home.

Wait here while I go steal things.

I think your expectations are too high for a beta release. You have to keep in mind that we haven't got the other half of the game yet.

Has Beth ever added quests in patches? Because I can't recall anytime that they did.

Unless you're talking about expansions, which is an entirely different story.

Too many follower candidates means spread thin, initially I liked Mjoll because she was chatty, that is until the dialogue started repeating over and over and....well, you get the picture, Uthgerd is now my favorite because she has nothing to say, silence is definitely golden now.

i REALLY wish they added some lore to the companions. lydia might as well have been a dog with a backpack... she has no personality at all.

the only real lore we get from followers is the favors we do to acquire them in the first place. after that, nothing.

as with most problems like this, the answer is always, mods will fix it.
