Wasteland Contracts.

Post » Thu Jul 29, 2010 5:17 am

The Wasteland was falling apart. The constant echoes of victims and bloodshed of many send shivers through every Wastelanders spine. The Brotherhood and The Enclave's war had illuminated how bad things were. Things have changed.. The Year is 2284, and America is still nothing but dust and rubble. But underneath the surface the Enclave's second resort was finally nearly finished development. Colonel Autumnn was no fool, he knew if all else failed he'd need a plan to fall back on. It was a plan that was estimated Eight Years to complete, but development was nearly over after seven years. Underneath Smiths Casey's garage Braun's vision was destroyed. Vault 112 was now the new base of Protocol Operation: 784. Assassins were now working there, compelled into serving America’s one true hope. Mark Price was the leader of this operation. His Great Grandfather James was the most notorious Assassin in the Capital Wasteland, the Enclave felt implored to higher Mark who had bettered his descendant’s accomplishments.

Mark had killed the infamous Elder Lyons just two years ago, in what still is the most shocking assassination the Wasteland has ever witnessed. Lyons was delivering his retirement speech as he handed over his throne to his daughter Sarah. Mark pulled the trigger on his M21 Silenced Sniper Rifle, as it plunged into Lyons forehead right through the brain. Mark's job was launch a hit on the Citadel to find a ground breaking discovery the Brotherhood had recently found. It was a cure for ghoulification and mutation that actually proved successful. The Enclave wanted the cure for many reasons, but they wanted it to take control and prove whey they're still in charge. They would make people buy it instead of just handing it out. The Citadel was on its last legs, the Brotherhood operating there were in very little numbers because of Lyon's Pride's departure to the West Coast. Many of the Paladins, and initiates ventured with the Pride but there was still going to be a fairly difficult number left. This didn't concern Mark he knew the reward he and his team would get, Wealth, Power, and Glory. He and his team would set out tomorrow at Sunset to head to a nearby Broadcast Tower the Enclave had kept hidden

Mark put his W2000 Sniper Rifle into components, and put it inside his briefcase. He was wearing a black suit, with a red tie, leather gloves, and black shoes. He grabbed his case and left his room, he saw Thomas in the hallway, as he approached him.

"Thomas, I've been given strict instructions to put you in second command. If the inevitable happens and I am severly wounded you are to take my place as operating commander. I want you and the rest of the team to meet me up in the garage in a half an hour. I know it is blight staying in an underground vault but it's home. Don't take too long."

Mark headed up into the garage, he awaited the arrival of his associates.

Ghost stood there watching Mark and Thomas talk, he knew not of what they were saying but he watched anyways, Mark then walked by Ghost.

"Mark, were are you going?" Ghost asked.

Mark looked at his colleague.

"Good you're here. We're meeting at the garage, Alex our intel will tell us what we need via broadcast. Come with me."

Mark headed up the stairs as he was now in Smiths Caseys Garage.

Mark sat down as he opened up his laptop, specfically created by the Enclave. Alex the intel provider began speaking.

"Agent Price, our sources show the tower is good few miles away. There is a town on the way there named Big Town. A man named Pappy is a little bonus contract. I suppose you could give it to one of your recruits. Anymore information we'll contact you."

Price stroked his chin, as he looked at Josh.

"Do you want the job? If you could pull it off you'd get into the Enclave's good books. And what follows is wealth. Your choice."

Chewing a piece of Pre-War gum, Mack looked through the scope of his rifle, aiming directly at his slow-moving target. The mask over his face started to heat up over his mouth, while he bared his teeth, and obnoxiously chewed his gum. With a tight squeeze of the trigger, a near silent fttp shot through the air.

Followed by a distinct squeak.

The small, and innocent Molerat seemed to explode as the powerful bullet pierced the side of it's skull. Mack smiled, and continued to chew his gum. A perfect shot for such a small target, at such a distance. With the taste of pride and bubble gum still squirming around in his mouth, Mack jumped from his rooftop perch of Smith Casey's garage. A nap sounded nice to Mack.

Inside the garage, Mack spotted Mark - the team leader - and Josh - a coworker, and friend. Mark and Josh looked like they were discussing something. Mack walked over and gave Josh a friendly hit on the back.

Mack looked at Mark, said, "Hey boss. What's the good word?

Mark glanced at Mack, he always had an admiration for Mack and thought he could be a very dangerous assassin in years to come.

"Mack, once our team has been fully rounded up we're setting for big town. A man there named Pappy has been a pain in the Enclave's side. He reprogrammed an Enclave Robot to spread messages about Big Town and how they needed help. Stealth always remember, we're going to have to sneak our way to the Broadcast Tower. We'll take shelter in Big Town tonight, whether they except it or not. We've recieved alot of new stock today. We have new M21's and Dragunovs. It's entirely up to you."

He then directed his attention back to Josh.

"Yes Josh, I'm giving you the task to prove your ability. I haven't seen much of you, so I can't judge. I'll need to know if you're fit for my squadron. Have any of you seen Thomas? When he arrives we'll head out, the others can follow."

He walked around the room as he became impatient. He wanted to get this operation over with.

Scratching my chin I thought over what Mark had said, it was a great honour to be second in command with my type of skills. Then again, out of the lot I had the most skill overall, it took little skill to hold a gun and pull the trigger; to use a bow was another matter. Stretching my limbs wearily I got off of the wall I was leaning against and started to make my way to the garage above. With a wandering mind I wondered what exactly we would be doing this time, running away? Making another hit?

Shrugging my shoulders I continued moving and within two minutes I was with the others who were already there. Nodding my head at each of them and giving a small cursory bow to Mark I leant against the wall again and began biting my nails. Coming up with a better idea I instead reached over to the quiver on my side and pulled out an arrow, checking it over for any error I nodded. Placing it on the ground I began inspecting the next arrow, as soon as that was given the okay I began on the next arrow.

It was an ardous process, but arrows were an efficient way of killing things in the Waste.

The radio crackled in smith casey's garage as a womans voice came over the comms

"Hey boss if your there just thought to let you know im in overwatch position 2 of th garage i know you wanted all of us to meet i was on my way down but there is some raiders heading towards the garage i count 7 am i cleared to engage over?"

Lorna looked down the sight of her rifle while brushing some hair back as it slid infront of the scope she awaited her comander's orders

Mark smirked as he glared at Francois.

"My old friend, we've been true alot in the past. We put it all on the line and look where we are now, it can't get any better than this. So I'll make a short speech and we can be off. I've been trained my entire life to kill and hunt, I've been punished for failing my tasks and beaten for incompetence. But in the end it made me a better man. It runs through my gene, from the very first cloning operations back West. I've based my life on killing for money, and it only phased me once I reached the rank I intended. I'm doing this because I'm good at it.

You will lay the foundation for others to come, once you retrieve the cure you will be the factor in restoring America. The process will be long and hard, but we've been picked because we're the best at what we do. The money once this is over will be overwhelming, you'll be covered in caps. I just want to say this, if the unfortunate happens and one of you perish your names will not be forgotten. They will be carved into stone and presented as a monument. Let us not forget this mission, for this will change our lives. We will be the ones that are known to have saved America from perishing. Let us take what's rightfully ours."

The team went outside has a signal intercepted the radio. Lorna was looking for help, and she needed the teams assisstance.

"Lorna, this is Agent Price. We're enroute to Big Town we'll take care of any nearby hostiles. Meet us outside when you're in a safe position."

Mark followed his team outside as they waited for Lorna.

"No problem sir making my way down to you now, dont wanna miss all the fun though i'll slot one so thyve got there backs turned to you"

Lorna stedied her aim and pulled the trigger the raider tailing the group hit the dirt hard the boom of the sniper echoed round the eerily quiet wasteland. Lorna slid the bolt back then forward and proceeded to make her way down meeting the others out side the garage the raiders where al ready dead

Mark turned to the team.

"Come on lets go."

They ventured down the road of rubble as they cautiously peered around, looking for hostiles. Josh looked prepared for his task as he seemed confident.

"Mack don't you have family in big town?"

He questioned, as he remembered from reading his resume sheet a few years back. Assassins would have to have great memory to be as good as they are.

With a yawn I got up as the others did, I'd only checked over half my arrows and they were all perfect. Trusting on my own arrow-making skills I placed all the one's I'd checked back into the quiver and followed after the others. As we were walking I noticed what seemed to be a furry shape hustling over in some dead grass, stringing my bow and pulling out an arrow I checked the figure. It was a simple Yao Guai trying to get comfortable, with a smirk I pulled the arrow up to my cheek.

Aiming precisely and efficiently I let the arrow loose into the Yao Guai's head, it stopped moving instantly and I grinned. Moving over to the corpse I yanked the arrow out of it's head, checked it over and nodded; wiping the blood off on the beast's corpse. Placing the arrow back in the quiver I caught up with the others quickly and yawned lightly. Such was life.

((OOC: Ooh, Big Town is officially Mack's home town! :D))

"Mack, don't you have family in big town?"

Mack ripped the mask from his face - it was getting way too hot outside. He took in a deep breath of fresh air not ruined by the cloth. Shaking his head, and letting his hair move freely through the air, he thought about what Mark had said.

"Hardly." Mack replied, "My dad and brother both died hunting, and my mom died even before that. Wouldn't say family, but definitely old friends." Mack shook his head slightly, "Old, old friends..."

Mark stared at Mack, and made sure he understood something.

"Mack, we can't embrace emotion. It would be against our tradition. I hope going back there won't break you down, because I've seen things like this happen. I need your full consent you won't feel anything for these people."

Mark overheard a conversation over the cliff, they were drawing nearer to Big Town.

"I hear someone talking, be quiet."

Mark bent over, as he scoped down and saw two slavers and a slave. He was about to pull the trigger, but he thought of something else.

"Hey Ghost, you'll need some training. Take them out with yor Rifle, and be fast."

He wanted a fair idea of the young mans ability, and if he was able to go get a direct headshot which cold penetrate the brain and kill you in an instant.

The inactivity startled me, Ghost wasn't seeming to be doing anything and neither were the others; they were almost like statues. As they stood in almost frozen positions like their minds had left their bodies I waved my hand in front of Mark's face; getting no response I shrugged and sat down. Yawning lightly I took out my remaining arrows and started to check them over.

((Heh, if anyone realises what I meant by that, I'll give ya a cookie. ^^^))

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------0

Watching the others carefully I hunkered down and watched Ghost, he seemed a bit out of place here for those few moments. Waiting patiently I took out the rest of my arrows and began to check them over with a quick eye. Ghost had better start moving soon, otherwise we'd be stuck here for a while; once Mark's mind was made up that was it. Scowling lightly I found a dud arrow, checking it over quickly I planted it into the ground and then pulled it back out.

It had withstood the slamming into the hard ground so I nodded and placed it back in the quiver, it was the only bad arrow of the lot; and even then it was great by a Waster's standards. Keeping my head down I waited for the telltale sign that Ghost had finally taken out the small group over the edge; I hoped it would happen soon. After another split second of waiting it felt like a day almost, as though no one wanted to do anything. Yawning lightly to myself I stayed where I was and hoped someone would do something soon.

Mark glared at Ghost, as he swiftly grabbed the rifle.

"You're a disgrace Ghost, Lorna take this and take them out."

Mark stepped back as he whispered to Francois in a distinct tone of voice.

"I hope I won't regret the team I've chosen, it's not going well so far."

He sighed as he waited on Francois to enlighten him. Francois was gifted with words and always knew what to say in Mark's mind.

"No offence sir but i'd rather use my own rifle" she threw ghosts rifle back to him

Lorna peeked up over the rise and saw the 2 slavers and slave she moved round th right flank as to get a clean shot on both slavers she raised up aimed and pulled the trigger, the two slavers dropped, Lorna sprinted up over the mound and tackled the slave down to the ground and shouted out

"SIR! its clear, but do we really have to off the slave? you know i dont like offing innocent people, but its your call"

Mack stood atop the perch, looking down at Lorna and the slave.

"SIR! its clear, but do we really have to off the slave? you know i dont like offing innocent people, but its your call"

Before Mark could answer Lorna's question, Mack removed his rifle from around his shoulder, and aimed it directly at the slave's head. With a quick fttp, the lave's body went limp. It was a clean shot, right about the nose; leaving no blood splattered on Lorna.

Making his way down, he walked up next to Lorna, and said, "No one can be innocent in a world of chaos."

((Sorry I have not been that active, my bad))

Ghost was dazed, his mind seemed to be empty he could here people talking but he did not understand what they were saying, he then regained all conciousness.

"What? Sorry, what happened?" Ghost asked with confusion.

Watching everyone I listened to them clearly and hesitantly, a few seemed to be a little dazed by something. Shrugging my shoulders lightly I followed Mack down over the edge and watched as he killed the Slave. Nodding lightly I said, "Your right Mack, no one's innocent in this place; not even us." Letting a small smile creep over my face I jumped the rest of the way down and landed right next to Mack. Giving a small laugh I checked the slaver's and slave's bodies.

There didn't seem to be anything of use on their bodies, but a further inspection showed that one of the slavers had a collar. A slave collar. Taking it out of his pack and quickly examining it I placed it in my own pack for further inspection. Some things could be genuinely important and we didn't even realise it at the time, I'd never make that sort of mistake again. Stretching my limbs a little more I looked up at the others on the top of the ledge and began to smile again.

"Come on down, the coast is clear and we need to keep moving!" Turning to the others I just rolled my shoulders and quietly said, "Their's something wrong with the group, I swear. A traitor, a fool or maybe a hero, I don't know; I hope that neither of you are those people." Looking Mack straight in the eyes and then looking Lorna straight in the eyes to emphasise my point. Looking away I started a cheery whistle and waiting for the others to finally make their way down.
