Wasteland Radios Playing Copyrighted Music

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 9:17 am

EDIT:

To simplify the situation, wasteland radios can't be disabled, so they'll be on and playing a radio transmission at default. I don't want this because they play music I don't own the rights to. Any modders or the Bethesda team please can enlighten me on some kind of toggle to disable the wasteland radios from automatically playing?

Thanks again.

Are you doing a live stream?

I've both recorded episodes and a live stream. The live stream actually proves quite interesting because the copyright prevents you from downloading the stream from YouTube to my PC so I can edit it.

Then, maybe do it with no music then go here: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=non+copyright+music&oq=non+copyright+music&aqs=chrome..69i57.2160j0j7&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=93&ie=UTF-8

and slap on some tracks you find.

I'm not privy to the BGS company set up so I'm not sure, but it would appear that the people who created the music were not part of the team in an "owned" way. This means that the bands etc. didn't sign off the music as ownership to BGS and still retain rights over it.

You can't disable this music as far as I know, it plays on radios you find randomly throughout the wasteland. I've noticed a big YouTuber advising the same information, that they had to remove a video because of it. The only way I could disable the music is if I disable the game audio completely.

Hmm yes, that is indeed a quandary. Have you tried looking through configuration files in the asset folders to see if you can disable partial sounds?

More than likely its just Google's attempt at protecting itself before someone makes a copyright claim. There isn't anything you can really do aside from disputing the claim, which probably won't go anywhere, but you should do anyways. The only way around it would be to strip the audio from the video and correct those parts with the radio playing. You'd probably have to write down when it happens to make it easier to go back in your video. Or just simply remove all music from the game in the audio settings of the game.

Its really jacked up.

This article kind of sums everything up better than I could this early lol

I knew Google would do something like this, I just wanted to beat them to the punch line.

It would be great if this music had a toggle option.

Well in theory it should fall under fair use, but obviously google don't care.

Was there never anything created or implemented at all for 3 or NV regarding this?

It does fall under fair use, but you are right Google doesn't care because it is a gray area, and they don't want to get sued, again, for it. It is pretty lame but there isn't much you can do about it.

If I could eliminate the source, then it wouldn't be an issue. I just don't know how.

I did a little searching...

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4\Data

Has a file "Fallout4 - Sounds.ba2"

Maybe if you make a clone install (to avoid any permanent damage) for experimenting you can remove some sounds from this pack with the right scripting.

Steam might catch that and try to redownload the file.

I got one of my Streams hit with some blank audio spots because of the stupid music too. There needs to be a solution here.

I'm not sure how to modify .ba2 files, I think you're heading in the right direction though.

There is a fair use clause to all copyrights (media). That allows you to do exactly what you are trying to do. But you are going to have too hash this out with Google. They are just protecting themselves. And I don't blame them either - they are a big target in this regard.

I'm not trying to do anything with Google, I'm just trying to disable the music from playing on the wasteland radios on Fallout 4.

There's a few mods on the Nexus that changes the music played in the radio stations.

Maby contact one of those modders and ask if they can mod empty music into that?
You'll get the (now constant) pvssyr of the radio host, but that's also possible to remove.

Can't you change the volume of the radio in settings? You could set it all the way down couldn't you? Maybe I'm misremembering. Also Al Chestbreach shoots them. No music after that!

There is a tool to unpack .ba2 files out there and also people who have made new sound files and gotten the game to read them. Should be possible to unpack the ba2 file, find out which audio files belong to the radio and replace them with empty sound files.

You could, ironically, google search for the script.
