I'd like to join KDN003 in daring to punch through that stymied thought that we can't have a fallout in Australia because Mel Gibson has already done a post apocalyptic state there to death... namely his role as Mad Max. But if the entire world has gone to heck in a hand basket, then OZ is absolutely no exception as the Great War is concerned. So what would that sort of land contain? Well I'm going to start with KDN003's want... and that is Mutated Roos.
Mutated Kangaroos
The Mutated Kangaroo I have to assume is a possible player race as well as potential enemies. Aboriginal, they begin to derive consciousness and thought like a human does, surprising the heck out of a poacher by taking his own gun from him and shooting him with it. Aside from that, imagine a creature virtually indistinguishable from a Kangaroo now. Now... imagine him with a wide brimmed hat with beer corks dangling from it, a crocodile necklace and leather sleeveless vest. Now imagine him hopping at you with a pair of Uzi's in his hands and a bandoleer of grenades and magazines strapped over him as he alternates between hopping and running (long distance sprint), popping up and kicking you right in the face.
Rippers from Tank Girl and the Roos from Palladium Games "After the Bomb" aside, this would make one of two alternate player races.
Racial abilities: Jump - jump exceedingly high. Spring - Kick forward and sprint on those long legs of yours.
Mutated Koala
Oh they're so cute! Till they're hacking at your knees with a machete... small and nimble, their odd case of having two thumbs - look at a koala and check that out - they're great thieves. Short, smart and intelligent, they can live off the land by eating the eucolyptis leaves.
Factions could include:
Rangers - what's left over of Australian military... intermixed with British and American survivors. Rangers are the roving law of Oz, similar to the NCR Rangers, only there isn't this vast army behind them.
Aborigines - the bushmen. They possess an unwavering degree of knowledge of the land and the dream time. Potentially, with their mysticism, this can be another franchise that uses magic through the Dream.
Wastelanders - Wastelanders often separate themselves into a plethora of various camps. They can range from small towns of goodly people just trying to get by, to roving caravans to warlords and their crews of insane death people.
Special equipment:
The boomerang - throw it away, and it'll always come back to you! Comes in simple wood and metal variants, either in the V or X shaped boomerangs. Extremely apt for those who like throwing weapons.
Venom - poisons become a big, big, big part of this land, simply because it's so readily obtainable. Spiders, Snakes... oi... everything including bullets can get coated in them.
Splatter rounds - rounds that contain a substance that splatters, injects, absorbs or is immediately inhaled. This can be gas pellets, poison... drugs...
