Watch Dogs Release Thread

Post » Thu May 29, 2014 11:39 am

This is a continuation of the last Watch Dogs thread, and the first thread following the game's release today.

In regards to Cabius' point last point from the previous thread (about http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2014/05/26/watch-dogs-pc-benchmark-results-multiple-amd-and-nvidia-cards-tested/ article); while irritating, this isn't Nvidia's fault nearly as much as Ubisoft's, and just serves as another reason for why my dislike for the company is becoming on par with my dislike for EA. I remember the days when being optimized for either Nvidia or AMD/ATI meant a gain of little more than a few FPS with such hardware...hopefully respectable companies won't fall to such poor development practices.

So, before I buy it. Is it a good game? No severe disappointments?

It was way overhyped I'm disappointed. The vehicle handling is horrid too.

Is anyone else having trouble logging into Uplay? Keeps telling me I could not connect to the server.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBb2BIVrV7M is usually the guy I go to for first impressions on new games. I may get the game, but that's assuming I actually have time to play it.

Good so far. As long as you aren't expecting it to be the next gen GTA V, you should like it.

Same, on PS4. Haven't been able to play any multiplayer today, regardless of game mode.

So is the game worth $60 or is it better to wait and pick up when the price drops. How is the actual game discounting the computer problems.

So far missions are pretty fun, the city is pretty bland, no countryside, soundtrack is terrible, vehicles are horrid.

I think it is worth 60 bucks, but I can see how this game is a last gen game cleverly disguised as a current gen game. I find the music on the car radios is absolute garbage, there hasn't been a single song I have liked so far.

Agreed. What were they thinking? Ubisoft is huge and so are their budgets. What happened to the soundtrack?

Is the city noticeably Chicago cause I think that would be pretty cool. Or does it just look like generic near future city.

Well, its a game that revolves around hacking into and manipulating a supercomputer in Chicago, so I don't know what you're expecting with a countryside.

I'd say it's worth 60$. Seems like there's a good bit to do.

Yes, it's unmistakably Chicago, and hardly what I'd call "bland." The fact that the game does encapsulate the city so well is one of my favorite parts about it, honestly.

I've played roughly 4 hours so far, and I'm enjoying it immensely. I can't begin to fathom why people are hating on it so much. The soundtrack is much better than the one in GTA IV, the driving works perfectly fine for me (though the fast cars are a bit hard to control). The only complaint I have is that it's not running all that well on my PC, which I think might be because of my older CPU.

That sounds awesome. I have always like the look of Chicago, way better than New York. :yuck: Now as long as it has a good story I will be pretty content.

From what I'm hearing, the game seems Ubisoft to the core. I see a common thread of complaints about the game:

Meh missions.

Noise considered music.

Clunky shooting mechanics.

Cumbersome controls.

Clunky car controls.

Generic grizzled male protagonist in a goofy outfit.

Forgettable characters and story.

I do see a lot of people saying how fluid and alive the city feels and there's a few good missions, but honestly, based on all I'm seeing. It's a game I'll skip, or at least wait until it's a price worth the game, so 20-30 dollars sounds right.

Hmm...intriguing. I'm interested to see how accurate it is. I'll still probably wait until the price goes down, though.

I couldn't attest to the accuracy of it, but when I think of Chicago architecture, general feeling, and the L-train, this game pretty much nails it.
