I love the CQC in MGS 3. It flowed so well. I think you're right. Something 'along-those-lines' would work quite well. The military precision would have to be dumbed down a bit, but definitely something that flows as well as the CQC does would be fantastic.

MGS4's CQC isn't bad either... but different

True, which is why the CQC in 3 is a lot smoother. I didn't like it as much in 4. The focus was in weapons. NOt fighting. Whereas some of the backstory between the boss and snake was CQC based. It was better I think. Thanks for sharing. Brought back some memories for sure. ^^
