Water pump vs. water purifier - what's the point?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 5:39 pm

If the water pump only provided dirty water, so there was a difference, but apparently there's not, so just compare:

- The water pump is just one construction that provides almost as much as the water purifier and it can be placed almost anywhere - haven't tried placing it on an upper floor yet though.

- But the water purifier not only requires electricity from a generator but it also has to be placed in water. There's absolutely NO benefit!??

What's the point? Rushed development?

The pump can only be placed on dirt. The purifier I think helps purify the water? Not sure about that. It also gives more water per unit.

It does not purify! Compared to building 2 pumps, it costs more! Because it also requires electricity and water!

Rushed development I think you'll find is the key here.

Water purifier gives you purified water bottles which you can then use or sell.

If it was possible, then your comment should be marked as answer to this thread! but still when only looking at the settlement number of water, it doesn't seem to be better, cause settlers don't care whether it is dirty or purified!

If what was possible, the water purifier does give you the purified water bottles in the workshop, I guess there is also a point in whatever suits you best, some may want to invest time building their base to their liking and beauty - some might just want to get over with all the settlement part and just stick few pumps and get on road. I'm also not sure the pumps provide you with purified water in the workshop, if it's not there is a big difference between the two then.

There are depths to this game that only emerge over time, either by accident or by reading forums like this. Being able to use a water purifier to set up a bottled water business is one of those hidden angles. We are only a week into the game. How many other nuances will reveal themselves to players who didn't buy the official game guide? I like this game more every day.

If pumps help deal with the thirst of your settlers but you won't find any purified water in workbench, which you need to craft things with, then it works fine. I just know that AFarm and TBluff have only waterpumps and I never saw a purified water in there just veggies. I put a purifier in first settlement and workbench has purified water in it. So logically it works the way it's supposed to but only have those settlements with settlers as test.

I prefer the pump since you can make purified water from the dirty water.

I like placing one thing and getting 40 purified water regularly for it, so that I can have hundreds of purified waters available for crafting at all time but heey yeah making it out of dirty water and 100 pumps is fun too..
