OVER POST!!!

on topic- crysis water is the best for the game, although we need bigger/better waves. but that system involving thousands of particles as water isn't practical for skyrim.

i just hope that
A- water doesnt make me lag
B- water can have a different amount of noise (big waves on the coast, flatness on lakes, small ripples in large lakes
c- the water refracts right/well- possibly with some cool effects under/over the water

I forgot about that. Good point. Much better underwater life is a must. Fishes, sea creautres, perhaps even some big deadly sea monsters.
Underwater caves, underwater ruins, more shipwrecks, hidden treasures, etc. Things like that are a lot fun. It gives you a whole new place to explore.
Instead of all water being empty with some rocks like in Oblivion. Very very boring.

One thing I loved in Morrowind was this. There were some really cool, very hidden places underwater.. :D
A sunken daedric ruin that rumours whispered about, and a forgotten dwemer ruin faaar out in the ocean near tiny tiny island. Perfect! :)
Which daedric ruin are you talking about in Morrowind?

The oceans in Crysis look really good, but the rivers, not so much.

I'd rather the rivers look like water in Half Life 2.

You lie! ;)

Hmm... yeah maybe you're right haha. It looks pretty, but I just found something that looks even prettier with rivers.
Look on this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0cFQMoNjwQ&feature=related

Crysis's rivers are very nice, but I think they can be improved.
In any case, this water is literally 100 times better than Oblivion's flat blue soup.

I don't wanna spoil too much, but you can hear a rumour about it. It's on the somewhere on the western coast of Morrowind. It's a sunken daedric ruin, related to one of the most unique daedric quests I think.
I remember it being so awesome when I found it... hidden and forgotten things underwater that lead to great rewards later are pretty nice ;)

I think we can safely hope or even assume that it will be better than that, most likely a lot better. Bethesda would be stabbing themselves in the ancle if they don't make the water pretty and realistic. With today's technology, it shouldn't make them sweat that much.

I wrote in another post that one of the reason(perhaps) Beth hasn't done Black Marsh yet is because they don't have the water physics technology. Anyways, since Skyrim is not a "Waterworld" as Black Marsh might be don't expect high-end water graphics anytime soon in ES.

The main thing I'm hoping for is that water actually has a Current to it and can move objects within it.

The recent XBLA game, Hydrophobia, had some AWESOME water based physics that made the water feel very life like, it'd move/push objects and react to things within it.

As far as Graphics go, I always thought Silent Hunter 5 had some very very awesome water, you can see them good in this video:

Having water that look s like Silent Hunter 5 with the physics of Hydrophobia would be amazing imo.

One thing I do like about Oblivion's water better is that the surface reflections updated A LOT faster than MW.

Has Oblivion water always had real time reflections? I've only played Oblivion on the Xbox and I remember the water was really ugly.

One of the best ways to make water realistic is to make it http://growingupatkins.com/images/sparkly_water.jpg where the specular highlights would be, and use http://www.zbrushcentral.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=225279 for the reflections.

Too often I see is really matte specular on water and it ends up looking like a big sheet of plastic.

This is more or less everything I was going to say, so, yeah, give me a reason to use that water breathing spell.

Agreed not sure how it would fit into the lore, but there needs to be some larger creatures to be found in the water than slaughterfish, mudcrabs, and the like. Something like a prehistoric looking shark, or sea serpent or something would go a long ways to make the water a more realistic environment, and one that you would think twice about entering.

Sea Drakes, not sure exactly how big they are but they're described as kind of a crocodile with fins instead of legs. They and sharks are both mentioned in 'The Infernal City' so, yeah, sharks are lore friendly and I think the drakes are supposed to be bigger.

I just hope the water looks "acceptable". Oblivion's water was atrocious, the reflections were jagged crap. Even early builds of Half Life 2 had better water reflections.
