So I was doing a quest in ESO, Daggerfall Covenant, Bangkorai. It was based on Lake Halcyon Lake, in an Ayleid Ruin. Basically a Dremora, who had bound itself to the mortal plane, was working for Hermaues Mora and wanted to stop some Nereid followers who were using forbidden knowledge. So you help for a bit, and you switch sides, as the Nereid wants to preserve the lake and stop it from drying up. Then the Dremora tells you what knowledge they were defiling. Water is the memories of mortals, and she was manipulating the memories of her followers to keep herself alive (as her spirit is bound to the lake). So you pick your side and you gain the favor of Mr.Mora or the Nereid. Mr.Mora of course telling you nothing. (A funny moment, the Nereid threatens to flood the ruins sense she can't kill you. Guess what, I'm an Argonian!)
So I was wondering, is this knowledge, water being the memories of mortals, new? I've never heard of it before. And what does it mean? Does this mean fish breathe knowledge? What about trees? The Hist? When the Elfoney got wiped out did that cause Nirn to flood? Yokuda?
But is this knowledge even trustworthy? Like everything in TES I think it is for the most part. Mora didn't deny it, the Nereid and her followers didn't, and neither did the Dremora who bound itself to Mundus.
But something I found odd, the Nereid did this (defiling the memories of its followers to preserve the lake, and itself) because it said (and so did Mora) that the desert to the south (The Alik'r) would eventually sweep over the lake, and it would dry up. But wouldn't the pools of water on Nirn get bigger, not go away. Unless it's all recycled and placed into another body. Argonians are generally believed to have their souls live in the Hist and be placed in another Argonian. Maybe this works with the other races in their own way, as they don't have sentient trees watching over them. Except for the forest spirits of Valenwood, or the Wyrd of High Rock (which I know nothing of). They seem to also have mystical tree things.
I don't know, this got me reexamining the way Mundus works.
