Waterbreathing Gear

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 12:11 am

I am currently at level 62 -- hundreds of hours of game play. I have yet to find a SINGLE item with a water breathing enchantment anywhere in the game, including for purchase. I was under the impression that this enchantment was like all the others; randomly generated in loot chests and inventories.

Am I missing something? Is it just a coincidence?

Who wants water breathing anyways? Your clothes get wet, and your armor stinks afterwards. Waterwalking FTW!!!

This page might be helpful, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Waterbreathing , the easiest item to get would be Volsung.

Edit: According to that page there is also a waterbreathing spell.

Volsung ( mask.. light armor)

Prices 20% better.
Carry 20 points more.
BREATHE UNDERWATER

Dropped by Volsung Dragon Priest ( found at Volskygge, which is West of Solitude).

I accidentally got this rather early in my game. Was cool at first swimming around, until you realize you have to exit the water whenever a minnow decides to nip at you.

I wish we had water walking too, but we should still keep water breathing.

I am pretty sure water breathing only applies to helmets and I have yet to find one too.

I loved water walking and levitate and summoning a Golden Saint just so I could crush her skull and trap her soul. Ah, those were the days.

I should have mentioned that I was aware of Volsung. I am looking for a piece with the enchantment so that I can deconstruct it. I have designed my "ideal" set of armor and enchantments, and wanted to add waterbreathing to my custom gear. I have been keeping an eye out, and recently gone on an active search for it. When I was unable to find it, I started to wonder if I was just really unlucky or if there was some secret I wasn't in on.

I usually try and find it first, so i can make some good gold off the merchants.

I found one sitting in a dungeon. It was a dwarven helmet with the water breathing enchant on it. Can't remember which dungeon though. I never use it because my mage has the water breathing spell and I have yet to find a reason to be underwater for more than a min anyway. I guess if you just wanted to go to the coast and swim in the ocean it could be useful. I almost forgot that since I didn't really need it I disenchanted it to help raise my enchanting skill and so I could put it on lighter armor if needed. Here's a shot of a Whiterun guard's helmet that I put the enchant on just to try it out.

I found a waterbreathing helmet as level 15. Deenchanted it, put it on a ring. The nice thing about that enchantment it that you could use a petty soul gem, and it be just as powerful as if you used a grand soul gem.

Yeah it's a pretty rare enchant. Up there with Muffle in non quest related boots. These are two enchants I hope I never see when I'm broke because usually by the time I raise the money the vendor inventory has reset and they don't do layaway in Skyrim.

Nah, I disenchanted a dwarf helmet of it I got off Adrienne and put it on a necklace. I'm guessing rings would work too (Necklace/Rings seem to be able to hold anything)

I laughed because I assume you're referring to the fact that most of the water in Skyrim is ankle deep. Seriously disappointing if you're playing an Argonian.

There is a Dwemer helmet of waterbreathing in one of the ruins on a pedestal. I'm pretty sure its a unique placed item.

I also bought a Steel helmet of waterbreathing from a vendor in Solitude, disenchanted it and made a ring of waterbreathing. The enchantment only needs a petty soul gem as well!

I took me a while on my first play through to find somehting with a Water Breahting enchanment, I think it is just rare. I know the item generation is randomw, but I think it is still based on percentages. So rarer items spawn less often. I was level 47 when I found it, so your level should be suffcient.

I had a level 14 heroine find a Dwarven Helmet of waterbreathing, disenchanted it and enchanted the emerald necklace I got from Margret. I found this helmet in the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller from Ustengrav quest. Since I play 3rd person it's nice not having a mask and wearing the necklace all the time has me adventuring underwater much more.

I agree. There was nothing more Mage-like than walking across the ocean.
