In Fallout 3, you'd see NPC's and enemies placed near each other as well as random encounters and they'd fight each other.
In New Vegas, enemies stay in their own zones or were allied with each other.
Which do you prefer?

not fallout but the basic principal was epic, was wandering in Skyrim through Whiterun (outskirts near the bandit fort )and let me tell you the spawning went nuts (in a good way ) I was in the Dawnguard and had a group of Vampires attack me,then a Thalmor patrol wandered in,then a Giant following a Cow (the cow got killed and the Giant went Ape [censored])then a [censored] dragon landed ,needless to say that was the best battle I've ever seen ,my point you ask ? I am all for Npc's fighting each other ,just as long as I can join in
I need this. I like to bat clean up whenever possible, pick off the survivors after letting them sort out their differences.
I like random encounters and watching inter-AI conflicts, because it makes the world feel just a bit more active outside of the idea that nothing happens until you get there; or that for whatever unrealistic reason enemies just attack you and ignore other NPCs. I prefer cpu's equally fighting.
When enemies fight each other, it also helps you note where the deathclaws are before they just pop up.
I love tagging along with an Outcast patrol and let them clear the way ahead.
AI inter-fighting is at the very top in entertaining gaming scenes for me, though remaining AI should protect or remove the bodies so it cannot be abused. AI not caring about their comrades getting looted is silly.
There were quite a few mods for Skyrim that added in something like this. It was thrilling to just stumble upon a skirmish or large scale battle. If it's not in vanilla, I'm sure it'll be modded in.
Dynamic NPCs. It's really fun to see Giants and Dragons duke it out in Skyrim.
You could see enemies fighting in New Vegas as well. Just go for a walk around New Vegas..... NCR and Fiends going at it everywhere...... I rather enjoyed it.
It was fun in Fallout 3 to come up on Super Mutants and Talon Co. fighting each other. Just when you think things couldn't get hectic enough, here comes the Enclave via vertibird.
Um what? I always see NCR vs Legion, NCR vs Fiends, NCR/Legion vs Jackals/Vipers/Scorpions
Not in the open world, only in a few pre-determined places.
I regularly find corpses (and not perma-corpses) in the open world, from engagements that I was too far away from to participate in. I don't have any mods that affect spawns either..... Now, I will grant, it isn't as prevalent as it is in some games, but, it does happen.
Well there was a glitch in NV that makes dead bodies travel with you, and they respawn where their body was at. You noticed it?
I could hear the combat taking place.... and ocassionally, I would see them at a bit of a distance, not close enough to participate. Usually NCR, and legion. But, NCR, and various bad guys as well. (roving patrols)
Glad someone mentioned this as I loved the Talon Company vs. Super Mutants vs. Lone Wanderer fights from FO3. I'd enjoy seeing more, personally.
nothing better in Fo3 than having a random missile go sailing past your face am I right?
I didn't. Anytime it was a three way fight their priority AI had them teaming up to take me down. -__-
can someone say T51b and 30,000 rounds for the minigun? (yeah I stockpiled what of it?)
This appears to have been changed in Fo4.
Part of the E3 videos showed the Sole Survivor near a sentry bot attacking some raiders, and they didn't break off their fight to team up and attack him, despite being only like 10 feet away.
One of my fondest memories of FO3 was traveling up north in DC with Fawkes during Broken Steel, and encountering a hostile group of Outcasts. While engaging them the Enclave approached from the other side, and quickly started attacking the Outcasts. Then out of nowhere a Deathclaw comes into the picture and we all fire on it. It kills the Outcasts and then the Enclave, Fawkes and I end up killing it near death.
I've also seen NCR vs. Legion vs. Merchants vs Nightstalkers
