FYI, with Bitcoins, back in June when just one Bitcoin was wort 25-30 dollars I made around $2000 dollars in just one week, but that was because I "won"(note the double quotes) around 100 Bitcoins by luck, multiply by 25 USD and voila.
The actual process of "winning" is actually, mining. Mining, is using your GPU to crunch SHA256 hashes, where you are looking for a specific one, which isn't pre-computable. Once you find this hash, you earn a reward, 50 bitcoins. Because you can calculate the AVG time(though it doesn't mean you will find that hash in such a time, or ever) back then I needed 2 months to find this hash(also called a "block"). But I had luck, and found 2 blocks in the span of a week.

Of course, I just summarized, there are a lot of variables to take into account, not just luck. And now, it isn't as easy to earn bitcoins, as it was back in June. Why? http://bitcoin.org for more information about this p2p decentralized cryptocurrency.
