Weapon/Armor customization

Post » Tue Oct 12, 2010 8:50 pm

I thought in Oblivion that there were too limited appearances for armor/ weapons, I believe mining has been confirmed. Would you support forging your own blades and armor, rather than just repairing your equipment after use?

You mean like the long-confirmed Smithing feature? :P

Yes, there are a lot of ways they could do it, one way I think would work good would be just interchanging the materials used in the equipment sets, for example say I like the shape of glass armour but don't dig the green color switch out the glass for ebony same with weapons.

well being mining, blacksmithing, and leather tanning were confirmed (smithing and tanning as jobs anyways) i would think it would be very feasable to craft your own weapons and armor, at least ones already present in the game. each grade would probably have a skill recuirement.

rust and iron = level 0 - 10
steel = 10 - 25

you get the idea.

also would like to see the visible wear and tear on weapons and armor too

I'd rather not create custom armor...I'll be fine with forging items that are already in the game.

Physically forging and or sharpening and enchanting weapons would be interesting, I mean you can enchant weapons in oblivion, but the visual process of this is never represented, its the same with allot of the stat buffing skills in almost all RPG's, A visual representation of everything you do is something id love to see in skyrim.

Smithing is in I believe. And my Nord will definitely be forging his own mighty warhammer this time around.

I think there should be wear and tear, like a dent in your armor or some slash marks. Maybe some custimization like adding a Red sash to your armor, or something along those lines.

I wonder if staffs will be any easier to make this time than in Oblivion, I hated being able to only make one staff. Perhaps one could use woodcutting to make a staff out of wood and then enchant it?

I would be happy with reinforcing Armor/Weapons aslong as it changed in stats and appearance, or lets say you have a light armor but you reinforce it, and it changes into medium or heavy depending by how much you put into it.

i would like it if you could make your own gear, just as long as the best items, including armor and weapons, be unique and/or quest-related.

I think being able to have full control over the appearance of your weapon would be extremely difficult to implement but if it was possible then I would certainly like that ability.

Sure, I'd like to make my own weapons and armor

But, how would the forging system be like? I mean, I hate menus and it would be pretty boring to simply choose something in a menu, then to magically have it in your menu afterwards.

If it's being done, please do it right and perhaps in a mini-game.

Yes, I love the idea of customizing my own weapons and armor. Another thing I'm interested in is repairing. We have to repair at shops now right, rather than randomly pulling out a repair hammer somewhere? Does that mean that weapon and armor degradation will happen more slowly now? It seemed like equipment degraded super fast in Oblivion.

I'm pretty sure it's the only reason they've put smithing into the game.

Yes, I want to be able to choose the handle, guard, and blade for my sword, also a design for each of those parts, when forging. But, maybe I'm asking for too much.

Hmm, has anyone here ever played need for speed: Carbon?

They had a model modifier sort thing for they butt ugly body kits, allowing the player to change the shapes and sizes of certain sets.
I wonder if a similar thing could be utilised for armour customisation.
