Weapon balance changes

Post » Fri Apr 02, 2010 2:16 pm

This patch is a waste of time. NV Does not need rebalancing, it needs you know actual Bugs fixed that prevent alot of people from enjoying the game. I still cant play Dead Money because of the horrible bugs in the game.

The weapon balancing is a SECONDARY part of the patch, the PRIMARY effort of this patch is extensive bug-fixing.

What I got from Jason's post was that it was primarily optimization and engine fixes. They worked hard with the software folks on freezes, crashed, etc... I also gather they worked on some bugs, but mostly on improving the game's stability. Now since I reckon a lot of bugs that people have had might have a lot to do with the instability and crashes currupting saves, this will also help with a bunch of the bugs from that aspect. I don't know how much time they spent chasing down scription errors, like bad scripts in quests, etc... The game should be much less buggy, but more from a stability standpoint, rather than a scripting standpoint.
So what’s in that patch? First and foremost, optimizations and stability improvements. While there are bug fixes, our core focus was on improving stability and performance. We worked directly with first party platform owners to identify issues, and we have fixed a great deal of the crashes and lockups that people were experiencing. In addition, we scoured the forums and this patch includes weapon balance tweaks and other requested fixes.
I might have misread, but that's what I got.

I have a horrible, possibly irrational fear that after this patch my game will crash and hiccup a lot more. Since the December patch my game has been pretty solid. Not because I fear Obsidian did a bad job or anything but because the universe is against me at all times. Damn universe.

Anyway, I'm pretty thrilled with the automatic weapon accuracy buff. Plus the changes to the 5mm is rather exciting maybe I'll actually make use of the mini-gun and assault carbine in future characters. The cowboy changes don't bother me none even though I primarily use lever actions but I always felt they were a bit too beastly.

The only thing that makes me scratch my head is lowering the damage on the service rifle. Since you usually get it around the same time as the cowboy repeater you think they would buff the damage a bit to make it it more attractive and useful to people who don't swear by lever actions.

I know they nerf the worst weapon in the game it's a bit overkill .It's like sawing off stephen hawkins legs just before a marathon.

Josh had to be real careful when tinkering with guns that any of the major factions primarily use. He toned down some of the main firearms that the Legion use. If he had upped the damage AND the ROF on the service rifle, that would have unbalanced the NCR/Legion scripted fights. Make the service rifle too strong and the regular troopers would overpower the Legion in the

They almost do already. I've watched the fight there from both sides without aiding anyone and

NCR troopers more than hold their own against the Legion assault troops.
I'm pretty sure the ROF increase on the service rifle, when used with the appropriate ammo for the target, will be a very nice upgrade. I've modded the ROF to half that of the marksman carbine, and bumped the damage a few points and that makes it almost too strong, especially with hollow points and AP ammo.

If the ROF is being beefed, then what use will the upgraded springs be? Maybe replace that mod with another called "tri-burst"?

It apears the rate of fire increase with the harder spring is only +.3. That's not a whole heckuva lot. No wonder I never really noticed the difference.

I noticed a difference, but not much. I usually just gave a fully repaired one to Boone with a few hundred rds. of 5.56 surplus.

LOL, that is too funny! Horrible, but funny.

Yep, the service rifle is wretched.

One thing I like:

That Gun change - HELL YEAH!

One thing I don't like:

JSP Ammo - Awwwww......

Everything else looks great too. Still wish they made the service rifle automatic even if the Legion gets owned. This coming from a Legion player.

Just finished the patch DL. I'll look about in the geck and see what changes I can find.

Edit: I would have loved to give all kinds of info on the changes, but it apears they have broken the geck with this patch. I can't load anything.

You can still view the changs if you get FNVEDIT. For instance 40MM grenades have been bumped up to 100 damage and the Fatman seems to hit 600. Now that is what I am talking about!

The spread on full autos have been reduced a lot. If I am reading FNVEdit right then here are the full auto changes:

9MM smg Was 2.2 now 1.5
10mm SMG was 4 now 2.2
12.7 smg was 4 now 2
LMG was 3.2 now 1.5
Minigun was 2.3 now 1

Full auto got a very nice boost.

No way for me to tell, unless i decide to dl fnv:edit. Since it looks like tonight's gonna be a bust, with no geck and all, I'm off to have some cheese enchiladas and a few bottles of negra modelo. Later, ya'll.
