Weapon charges

Post » Thu Aug 19, 2010 1:11 am

I think instead of every regular attack causing you to use up your soul points in your weapon, it should only be activated when using a power attack. That way it keeps people from using them up to quickly and having more control over the numbers. It could just be an option though when enchanting a weapon to pick when it uses the enchantment.

regular/power/or both.

Or an option to have regenerative enchantments as stated before.

They should make it in Skyrim that the higher your enchantment skill, the better you use the enchanted item and/or stronger enchantments can be made, and the faster the recharge rate.

i agree, the charges are a pain in the azz.
but without them weapons can easy get overpowered, like in oblivion, 30 fire damage, 30 ice damage, and 30 shock damage on the same weapon...

keep soul gems for fast renchanting/charging but bring back morrowinds recharge over time feature lorewise explain it as drawing from the natural magical energies imbued in the ancient land of skyrim....or something like that.

Option 3: it recharges itself slowly. Recharge speed is dependant of your Enchanting skill/perks. Soulgems are just for recharging in an emergency. No recharging services.

Morrowind reduced the charge drain on use, worked pretty well. Most weapons took so low enchantments you seldom run out with a golden saint soul.
The sword you could take from the guards in Tribunal was a different story:) weakness to magic 100%+calm creature in 12 feet for 3 seconds+ soul trap+ absorb health 100 I think. Totally overpowered, yes you had to use Azuras star a lot almost as in Oblivion. :flamethrower:

if you dont like over powered weapons dont use them.

Correctly Morrowind solved this very well. Enchanting in Morrowind had just four easy to fix problems:
Cast on use item was way overpowered, ring of weakness to fire 100 + fire damage 100 in 30 feet. Rate of fire more than 5 shot / second. Yes it saved my ass in the werewolf labyrinth in Bloodmoon but it did far more area effect damage/ second than fatman. Reduce the max effect, reduce the rate of fire and perhaps increase the charge drain, no problem if it's much higher than on weapons as you can easy carry many rings.

Permanent enchantments required a golden saint soul, yes you could buy summon scrolls in bulk but change this. Let us make lesser constant effects with smaller souls.

Item quality decided max enchantment. Boring as you ended up in goofy looking noble clothing who was not my choice for dungeon diving, make items of simlar type have the same enchant value at least for clothing and armor.

Enchanting was to hard, you needed exploits to enchant high quality items at enchant skill 100. At 100 you should be able to make anything possible, perhaps you needs some perks to.

I believe that if it is magical, it should be protected magicly and not require repairs. That would be a resonable compromise.

unlimited charges sounds uber and not challenging.
There should be some downside for balance.

soul gems to recharge with either a trickle of recharge or a perk that allows recharging.

There should be points in the world where you can recharge your magical items. Places that are hard to reach, like the top of a mountain or deep in a dungeon, that you have to go on a sort of pilgrimage to. Once there, there's no limit to the number of times you can recharge. And of course it would be free.

This should be on top of the rechargers in the cities who demand a fee. Basically you have to choose between pricey yet convenient mages, or free but awkward natural locations.

I wish they would scrap the whole charge idea completely and have the soul gems size affect the magnitude of the enchantment only and possibly limiting what enchantments you could place by soul size.

seriously, why not take it in a new direction, with the new perk system, it shuld be easy, magical weapons only have the "type" of enchantment, for exampel, you have a sword that deals, lets say, 10 - 20 damage and its got a fire damage enchantment, but with no damage, in order to give it the enchanted damage, you have to apply a soul from a soul gem, to give it effect, and here comes the new part i was thinking of, with a low lvl of enchanting for example lvl 5, you get a perk that inables you to give you magical sword a +5 fire damage on each strike with a scamp soul for maybe 30 - 50 strikes, but at lvl 20 enchanting you get a perk that enables you to put the full power of the soul into a single strike, exampel, grandsoulgem with a deadre lord soul in a single strike form, gives you a +170 fire damage on a sigle strike (for those pesky bosslike spiders :chaos: ), im not saying, "I WANT THIS IN THE GAME", but maybe an idea for a mod, to bad i dont have a pc to run skyrim on (low low spec) so that i culd play the mod, well just my thout on an enchanting system

I'm all for permanent constant effect charges or cast on impact.

Everything should be balance by the weapon, enchanting and soul-gem quality, not you choice of whether you want a slightly improved weapon to use all the time or a unfairly improved weapon that you save to easily defeat difficult enemies.

I voted for the Oblivion style...but maybe im thinking that it needs a revamp. The only soul gems I used were black soul gems because of their capacity. I only used the souls of evil people though ;) Anyway, it was a bit annoying that when you were enchanting, you couldnt say add 3 or 4 soul gems, as to make an ueber weapon. I thought it rather lame that if you tried to have an ueber weapon you only got one charge out of it. Now, I have no idea how they are doing it now, but I hope it is a bit more user friendly to where if I have the mats and the gold I can make a weapon of the gods.

That sounds highly inconvenient. I'd rather horde several grande soul gems and use them all up than spend several minutes just to reach a place to recharge everything.
