Weapon holstered, disappears? :-(

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 11:16 pm

Hello, i was wondering if anyone knew why they have made it so that instead of visibly holstering your weapon on your character eg. Rifles on your back, pistols on your hip, like in the other fallout and elder scrolls games guns now just disappear completely in to thin air?

I recognise that there will be people who it doesn't bother but personally for me it is quite immersion breaking as I much prefer to play in third person. A man walking round with no visible weapons at all in a supposedly very dangerous baron wasteland just feels off, does it bother any one else at all?

Does anyone know why they took it out when it was already in all the other games? I really hope they add it in somehow with the player feed back updates they said they could do because it's a feature I really enjoyed from all their other games. :-(

I agree completely, it's really weird they decided to remove that feature. Maybe it has to do with the many different mods for the weapons?

I guess maybe you are right there is a lot going on there with the mods but hopefully they could find a work around because I don't particularly want to play in first person, I bought the game for third person. I didn't realise they were going to remove something like this when its consistently been in the majority of the rest of their titles that I also loved and enjoyed :-(

Might be but to me the variations does not look so extremely different.

On the other hand now you can carry an mini gun as concealed weapon.

My guess is that with the new multi-part variable armour, there would just be horrible clipping issues.

Add all the possible weapon mods on top of that and maybe they just decided it looked ghastly and hiding the weapon was the lesser of two evils.

That's just a complete guess, though.

In any case, I'm sure someone will mod it back in if it's possible.

Yeah you are right, bringing that thing out was really ridiculous I was just like -_-

Bringing anything out as a concealed weapon feels wrong and I miss it a lot in my wasteland experience :-( just doesn't feel the same.

Everyone has features and things they love and hate in ever title, this was one of my favourites, was hoping for a good few hundred hours in this like fallout 3 and skyrim but if I have to play this in first person I'm not sure how much longer I will go for and I am 3 hours in so far.

Just my views, not speaking for anyone, just discussing this with people who miss this feature too

Yeah they did, your gun now disappears into thin air and you walk around weapon less. I don't know why they did it, I had gotten so used to it in their other titles

This bothers me too.

I thought Morrowind was the last we'd seen of this nonsense.

Nothing as far as I can see! The game seems very good, the sky is a bit too blue for a nuclear post apocalyptic wasteland in my opinion but that's just me.

Oh well, guess I'll just see if I can get used to it, paid too much money for this now. Wish I had known before, first person just isn't for me and having your gun out all the time the movements are a bit awkward

Your gun disappears when you put it away, correct, but when you have it equipped and don't use it your character goes into a relaxed stance and points it to the ground. I think that's ok and a nice change.

The one thing that makes the Fallout and Elder Scrolls games epic and not just great is the modding community that keeps them alive for years. I still go on the Nexus and watch YouTube videos on mods for Skyrim. This does not kill the reason for modding but damn... it doesn't help.

Do you think they will do this to the next elder scrolls? Pulling great swords and tower shields out of the air too?

Yeah, I was really disappointed with the change. Would have liked to have seen a replacement, e.g. weapon holstered = lowered weapon, non-threatening; weapon equipped = pointed out from the hip, more alert. You know, at least something better than having it disappearing...

I for one am greatly disappointed in this. What use is the time and effort searching and collecting items we put into crafting unique and powerful weapons if we can't oogle at them when they are holstered?

Each mod changes the way the weapon looks. This would be fantastic to have resting on your leg/hip/back. Why it's not in here in Bethesda's newest, most open ended creative universe leaves me clueless. IMO, no matter the graphical increases or # of items in the game or the more dialouge options...this being taken away makes the game and players (including NPCs) look a second rate game. It was on every other Bethesda release for the past 10 years and one of my favorite qualities even back in OBLIVION!

At least make it a toggle-able option for players who want it. For those who want it in most likely will not care if we have to deal with clipping...

Being on a console myself, i'm very very very very very very nervous on the mods even being offered to us in the first place, let alone a complex mod such that this will surely entail.

It may not be important to you, but us who play the game to get lost in it...it's a HUGE immersion breaker.

Some very good points made Mazz816 I agree with you that for some this is a big immersion breaker and since I don't feel like so far they have removed anything else only added why they felt this is something that has to be removed :-( I too want to get lost in the game but this is proving quite hard to look past at the minute

I mentioned in another thread on this topic that it'd be ironic if the changes to armour and body type had necessitated the removal of holstered weapons as this change will just make me play in 1st person. I just won't be able to concentrate on my character in 3rd if their weapon is not visible, I only go into third person when wandering around in non-threatening areas to enjoy the look of my character..

They already started doing it in Skyrim. Remember staves and off-hand weapons?

We'll likely see this in Elder Scrolls 6

I wonder what kind of conversation they had in the office when deciding to remove this, wonder who decided it, it won't have been overlooked.

They said they were going to release regular fixes and player led updates, I wonder how we can make our voice heard and let this be one of the fixes/updates?

A game like this is made for immersion and to sculpt your own journey in the wasteland, but walking round with no weapons on my character makes me feel defenceless and I spend more time feeling frustrated than enjoying the games great qualities

Agree....and I'm mostly in 3rd person just so I can look at myself vs the atmosphere and others...this is seriously taking my drive to craft weapons away...

I agree if they decided to leave it out by default due to clipping...but at least give us an option to toggle on/off the visible holster.

Please tell me how you holstered your weapon. I am playing 1st person and I'm pointing a gun at everyone as I'm walking around. I can't put the gun away. How do I get it holstered? Idont' care if it shows up in 3rd person holstered, I just want it out of my HUD so I don't accidently shoot someone.

Thanks.
