[REQ] Weapon Keybind Holder

Post » Thu Jul 01, 2010 10:49 am

Is there any way someone could make a mod that saves all your weapon keybinds so you don't have to redo them every time you leave a casino? I like to have all 8 (7 if you count the ammo changer) keys bound at all times, and it's a huge pain having to redo it just because I entered a casino...

I haven't played enough to know why the hotkeys get lost in a casino. My guess is that the casinos take your weapons away and the game doesn't keep track of the hotkeys.

In either case, I think you will need a mod with access to the NVSE function GeyHotkeyItem. With that a mod could track when you enter a casino and record your hotkeys. When it detects you leaving the casino space and you've got your weapons back, it could attempt to reset the hotkeys. That might also need additional NVSE support.

NVSE is probably still a week or so away from a beta release. Then someone would have to write a mod to do this. You can keep track of http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1127320-wipz-new-vegas-script-extender-nvse/.

This is exactly what happens. They stash your weapons (you can keep "holdout weapons" though), and if you had any of them bound to a key it resets.

Hopefully someone will make a mod for this once the software is available... I'd do it myself but I have no idea how to mod hah...

This wasn't much of an issue in Oblivion or FO3, where it was quite rare to have your character's weapons removed. In NV, it's a rather frequent occurence, not just with casinos but also places like the energy weapon shop in Freeside. I just don't understand why no one thought this needed to be addressed during game development.

Or how about the whole taking away the number 2 key bind.

Oh god yes. I'm playing a melee only character and it's annoying that I don't have that bind open.

Yeah I always got annoyed when it happened in the other games, and I think there's only like one instance (maybe, I might just be remembering wrong) where your hotkeys don't get wiped when your junk is taken. Its ridiculous that they didn't fix this issue for FONV at least since they decided its cool to take all your stuff away every 12 minutes -_-;. Also I dislike how the switch ammo key wasn't bound to something else like "Q" instead of 2, GG at not changing stuff that was set up for the console peons.

Pretty sure you can rebind the key. Pretty sure, anyways.

Here's another idea: bind an item that isn't a weapon to a hotkey. When you press the hotkey it will use the object which in turn has a script attached to it that equips your desired weapon. In my noobness I can't think of a way to relate the non-weapon item and the desired weapon but I'm pretty sure it's doable. There was a similar mod for Oblivion released a few years back that allowed you to bind up to 4 weapons to a hotkey.

It's not exactly a fix for the issue but a workaround. On the plus side it can be used to toggle between multiple items and only taking up one key.
