Weapon Mods Questions

Post » Tue Mar 23, 2010 7:36 pm

Trying to put a silencer on my sniper rifle or a scope on my cowboy repeater:

Couple of questions:

Do I need to use my repair skill to use weapon mods?

Where is the best place to buy weapon mods with the largest variety?

Thanks!

1. Nope

2. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas_weapon_mods has a good list of places to buy them.

For guns the single best spot is Route 188 Trade Stop guy called Alexander. He is a jerk but he often has more gear than his mother company's main store.

1. No, just go to the weapon you would like to mod in your Pip-Boy and press L2(PS3) LT(XBOX360), and I don't know what it is for PC.

2. Gun runners.

On PC select the weapon and hit the X key

Well, you can't put a scope on a cowboy repeater. And are you trying to mod the sniper rifle with a sniper rifle suppressor?

Each weapon that can be modded can only accept mods made for that kind of weapon. You can't just drop on anything onto any weapon. So unless the mod is meant for the weapon you are modding, you can't do it.

it would seem that dale barton won't interact with you except for mindless banter if you have killed ceasar and friends. wish I had known this earlier, he seems to be the only one that sells the rest of the cowboy repeater mods

One of my few gripes about this game is the random appearance of weapon mods in the game. Different vendors have different mods and it's always random. You generally find high-end mods at the better vendors while fools like Chet in Goodsprings carry mods for lower-end weapons.

Anyway, there is another merchant at 188 from whom I purchased my sniper rifle suppressor and carbon-fiber parts (shocker: i found them at the *same* time) and it's the Arms Merchant who is above Alexander (that is, on the bridge above Alexander).

(You need Guns 40 to get Alexander to sell to you)

Are the inventories of these dealers randomized? I have been to the Arms Dearler at 188 and Alexander multiple times and neither one ever has the sniper rifle suppressor. I can't buy it from the vendortron at Gun Runners because one of their guards starts randomly attacking me every time I get near the place. Anybody know how I can get ahold of this mod?

First of all, I'm pretty sure there's no scope for the cowboy repeater.
Second, the only thing the repair skill involves are shortcuts & ammo crafting.
Third, any major branch of weaponry (or just a regular trader) should have at least 1 or 2 mods every once in a while.

Old Lady Gibson at Gibson Scrapyard,
Alexander at the 188 Trading Post Northwest of Boulder City,
Vendortron at the Gun Runners West of Freeside's gate (forgot which one)
Chet at Goodsprings General Store

I've found are all common to have a few weapon mods every once in a while.

Yes they are randomized. They reset on their own about once per game week, but if you park yourself in another cell (say, the Novac motel room) and wait/sleep for 73 hours, most merchants will reset their inventories with new stuff. Alternatively, if you are on PC, it's possible to forcibly reset merchants by saving your game right next to them, exiting the game, then loading back in (note: simply saving, then reloading will not do it).

As far as the guard attacking you? Finish the Crimson Caravan quest to raid the Gun Runners for their schematics/plans, or tell McLafferty that you do not feel comfortable doing so - that should turn their aggression off, shutting the chainlink gate may also help.

Gun Runners robot worked for me. How long is the waiting period for the vendors inventory to reset?

If I remember correctly go to a different cell (like inside a house or building) and wait for 3 days (72 hours). when you get back the items should be diffferent.
