Since my characters tend to be scientist types, I tend to not use weapons unless I have to, and if I do they tend to be explosives and energy weapons, usually one-handed.

Lasers. All the lasers. Give me a Gatling Laser with max-charge microfusion cells, and I'm as happy as a clam in high water.

Never found big guns worth the hassle.

They're too heavy, ammo is rare and the times they're useful are limited - lugging around a fatman for the off chance of finding a crowd of heavy enemies or a really tough one is usually not worth my time. I'd rather lob a plasma grenade and have my laser handle the rest.

The minigun blasts through the ammo way to fast for the pay-off, especially if your skill is lacking. Just meh.

LMG's and sniper rifles. I also keep a hand gun for back up.

Guns, guns, guns...

Preferably Assault rifles/carbines and Shotguns.

I definitely want this in the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcgJAp38mmM

My personal favorites are Blunt melee weapons due to their high disarming rate. Fighting against armed humanoids is the most fun.
Lead Pipe, Humble Cudgel and family (Tire irons, Rollin Pin..)

Though by the second half to end game, I usually go with Oh Baby! or Knock-Knock due to their strength and long range.
You can't really take on Deathclaws and giant Cazadores with short range one handed weapons.

Depends on the character, but in NV I primarily focused on guns and energy weapons, because of the variety and mods. I'll probably do the same in F4. Although melee weapons to bash in a synth's head, could be very fun too.

Personally, these are the weapons I'm very interested in FO4:

- Laser Musket (some might question me about this haha)

- Automatic Plasma Rifle

- That rocket-powered sledgehammer you see in one of the demos (Frankly, this is the one I want the most.)

Gauss rifle all day every day. I never take the wild wasteland trait in NV due to wanting YMC/186.
My runner up for most fun weapon is shotgun builds.

For FO4 I'm mostly looking forward to:

1) Plasma sniper
2) Plasma shotgun

Rifles, energy or other. Except plasma. But as long as there's a modable hunting rifle I'l be happy. I'll also take pistols for small creatures and easy enemies. And shotguns for creeping around cramped and collapsed buildings.

I never use big weapons as I prefer to stay light and fast on my feet, unless I'm actually playing a power armoured character, which isn't often.

I thought what prevented people from big guns the most was ammo shortage? I see how the weight is another no-go though.

There's nothing quite like CQB to get the adrenaline going.

Shotguns and pistols have always been my favorites and I cannot wait to get my hands on that crafting system.

Anything that can kill! srsly though I like using snipers for long range and assault rifles to [censored] [censored] up quick; if that doesn't work then off to laser or plasma.

Pretty much that. Also from a RP'ing perspective, I associate the bigger weapons with PA. A guy in leather armour suddenly whipping out a minigun and letting loose without falling over or something looks, to me, a bit strange :)

I love scoped weapons, and usually conventional style weapons. I agree with others about weight and payoff of "Big Guns" so I avoid those most of the time, and use the ammo I find for them to just barter for more ammo for the weapons I do like.

With the new crafting system I can picture my PC building whatever style and weapon type that does the most damage as long as it fits my preferred four weapons; a long range sniper weapon, a scoped pistol, shotgun, and knife. It made little sense in previous games to use energy weapons since they didn't fall into those categories well.

Crafting weapons, oh the possibilities!!!

Usually Ol' Painless as my main, sometimes the Backwater Rifle. Combat Shotguns or Plasma Rifles as secondary. A .44 Magnum, Plasma Pistol or Sawed Off Shotgun as a sidearm and whatever highest damage thing I find (and can maintain) for melee, which normally ends being Combat Knives/Occam's Razor

Suppressed Pistol, Smg, Rifle. Extended Mag on any weapon. Heavy weapon and 4000 rounds to take care of hoard sernarios. Blade and/or blunt for when ammo is depleted.

Unarmed weapons, hopefully I'll be able to dual wield Power Fists/Gauntlet weapons. It makes no sense to just have your right hand occupying a powerful weapon, especially when your left side is out in the open and exposed. Dual Wielding just makes more sense with Unarmed than nearly any other weapon skill.

Probaly have a powerfist around, but i rarely use melee or unarmed. I tend to go for a setup of 5 max weapons, mostly 2 handed rifles. Atleast one Sniper, and one fast fire heavy hitter. Depending on what i play they can be either Guns or Energy weapons, but not a mix often, atleast not early in the game. I also like having a shotgun handy for CQC with weaker critters (molerats, ghouls, radrouches.)

Standard for guns would be:

  • Sniper (Gobi [FNV], Anti-Mat, Huntingrifle with Scope.)
  • Assault Rifle or Minigun (kind of fast fire weapon)
  • Hunting Shotgun or Riot Shotgun
  • Something Explosive (Mines, Grenades, Pulse weapons)
  • Melee Backup

I always have a melee backup incase i run out of ammo. But seeing as i scrounge up lots of ammo if i can, i rarely need it.
