Weapon Swapping

Post » Sun Apr 25, 2010 10:23 pm

So I watched the E3 stage demo video of Brink for the 7th time (I think, could be more or less) and I noticed something in particular. In the video it seems that your only able to pick 3 weapon load outs during a game.

I'm wondering, do you select the 3 primary/sidearm combinations before the game starts or is there more than meets the eye?

BTW If this has been discussed before excuse my ignorance.

That was when the game was still in Alpha things have changed since then. You can choose any weapon that fits you r body type.

I'm actually not sure if you can have multiple classes, but I know you can make your own class.

Does this mean you can customize your weapon while in-game? Or is that all out of game or between game oriented?

If I remember correctly from when I played brink, you customised character before going into game, picked gun n everything then while in game if you didn't like your gun you could go to a PC like thing n swap your load out for something different, change class.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

You can change your class and equipment at Commandposts/Terminals.

I think, you setup each weapon's config before you start playing and can select this previously modded weapon right away ingame then.

you customize weapons and abilities, then you choose a game(or start one yourself by setting up bot difficulty, map and such things). you will start out with those abilities and the gun you customized(you can customize several guns and in the cp they would all be the way you customized them) and if you want a different gun you go to the cp and choose a different one.

if i missed a question you can tell me and i'll see if i can answer it:)

Makes sense. I was mostly confused by the fact that after he customizes his gun and he goes in game, he doesn't get the gun and he can only swap out for 2 others than his starting.

Actually there are 4 set classes; Soldier, Operative, Medic, and Engineer. You can't make up a new one. These classes are the ones that will be final (so far anyways). You can however customize how they function via the Abilities (or Perks?) loadout screen, in the main menu. Each ability allows a bit more diversity in your class. But your original statement is wrong. You cannot make a new class. No Medics disguising as the enemy, blowing up new passage ways, with your turret. Sorry to let you down.

So I'm lost. We are not making builds? You just pick your guns and the upgrades in the Terminal/control panel?

I think they should make like 6 weapon builds you can make before the game and also have it so you can change the guns manually E.G. You can go the the terminal and pick 1 from 6 pre-made builds or you can change the guns one by one and bit by bit.

Also is it correct you can change class and weight at the terminals when ever you wanna?

The way i understand it, you will be able to upgrade your weapons the way you want before you play a game, and that's how they will be when you quick select them at the control panels. If you want to change the upgrades on one of your weapons in the middle of a game, you can, but it will take longer, so most people would want to have a gun set up for every style of play they use.

If you mean weapon builds, each weapon will have the upgrades you put on it. If you mean character builds, you can have 16 characters, each will have a resistance and security look.

Like I said, every weapon in the game will have the upgrades you set them to have. There may be quick slots for the weapons you use the most, but I'm pretty sure that's how it is.

In the Container City preview we can see how Paul can select different weapon-loadouts named "Light", "Medium" and "Heavy". Also it seems his body type changes then, which means it's probably an old build.
Anyway, what I'm trying to point out is, that you can probably set up some loadouts you can then quickly access when using a terminal/control point.

It is an old build, you can choose any weapon you can utilize. You can also change class. You cannot however switch body type.

The title of this thread made me wonder if we can actually drop weapons, allowing players to swap them assuming they are compatible with the body type? Can you drop weapons? Can you also pick up random weapons you find on the ground under the same proviso?

I know you can't change the body-type. But I also don't think you'll be able to get quick full access to all your available equipment, but rather set up loadouts before you enter a game which then can be accessed quickly on that wheel-interface.

As long at there are no limits to what weapons you can use in a game, I'll be happy. If that means that I have to go in and customize the weapons I don't use much if I want to pull them out, that's fine. I've never understood why most games limit you to the number of weapons you can use in a single match.

I think it actually makes sense.

First you have to decide what you'll take with you, depending on what your team takes and what map you will be playing on. And then you will imagine some scenarios for what the other team could bring to the field; depending on that you create several "counter-loadouts".
But as there as to be a random factor as well, you can't just access everything during the match, so there can be a situation in which you are not able to counter the enemy team or vice versa by pure weaponry.
