In this game combat doesn't exist underwater. Not even melee, and even mirelurks can't fight under water. It may not make sense but that is how it is.

It kinda does make sense. Have you ever shot a gun underwater? Won't work out well. They probably did this because they were too lazy to make an exception for melee combat.

Melee wouldn't work to the same degree either, and there's no point making a system that would reduce the damage when the player in underwater. (Although they did in Oblivion)

yeah.. but then mobs and npc block stairways and you need air ...haha guess why this should be fixed , jump in river and u got a army of them after you ...lol

still silly that fast one hand weapon dont work like combat knife and such, fair enougt that a twohand heavy weapon cant be used and to slow under water

i still think that attack should work with a knife and so should railgun i think its a pressure system , but now i have made info on it , i still hope they will fix it

insted of a swim huging group that dont get solved at all

when I find Lurks swimming I toss in a grenade or two. They work under water just fine. They also make a pretty nice splash effect when they go off.

The issue being discussed is fighting while swimming. You cannot toss a grenade while swimming. There are other weapons that can hit enemies underwater but once again you must be on land or at walking depth to use it.

The game mechanics simply do not allow any combat while swimming. Sure you might run into a snag, but that is what quicksaves are for. Hit a snag, load a save. And save often.

Yes it’s pretty strange, melee weapons work pretty well underwater. Yes slower movement so blunt weapons would not work well. However knives and swords would work nice. Laser should actually work to but would have limited range and would boil the water the beam pass trough.
Oblivion had melee underwater, remember I tried to hide from the guards underwater, I had water breathing so I stayed at the bottom and the stupid guards had to return to the surface for air so they was unable to reach me.

Sorry my bad for misunderstanding. I have yet to try and fight while swimming. I normally try and clear the pool before diving in.
