1h weapon with no spell or shield.

Has anyone here rolled around just using a 1h weapon without a spell or sheild? Wouldnt it really be that hard doing this. Or should one just go with a 2h insted?

You'd basically do less damage than a dual wielder but you'll be able to block with your one weapon. I think it's doable for sure. I might try tonight :)
Note - doable doesn't mean easier obviously, it'll be a bit harder.

It's less effective than dual wielding because it does less damage overall (if you're using a destructive spell) and doesn't offer as much protection as it would if you were to use a shield.:/

So I guess it's good for RPing purposes and not much else.

Level 30 and found daedric boots in a random crap chest they had no business being in.

Levelled.

Loot.

bit weird to be honest
no expert swordsman or anything but I can imagine there being plenty of advantages to using just a sword
perhaps not as much compared to a sword and shield (shields are heavy though)
but definitely over dual wielding since that's something you mostly see in movies and has little to do with reality I think

some negative effect to dual wielding would have been more realistic at least

there simply is no point tbh...
1 hander + shield is the most effective (all-round) melee build, to go about with just a one hander means blocking less and having less armor with no upsides at all, even assassins get dual wield bonuses.

I was thinking of making a character with a sword in his/her right hand, and then simply restoration spells in the left, then light armour and enchanting. It'd be like a healer build I guess. Some of the restoration spells seem pretty awesome, like the ward spells and making undead flee, and the avoid death perk too seems useful.

It'd probably svck though, knowing me.

Thats how I have been playing, mostly. However, I found a really cool shield, and I have spent points on dual wield perks, so I just go with one sword only when fighting low level rabble.

Does anyone know if the first Block perks, the ones that make it "more effective" affect blocking with a sword too?

I wanna know this too.

If the shield wall perk, increase the parry to.

I usually roll with a one handed sword and nothing else, switching to dual wield or spell in one hand as needed. I'm not a fan of shields, and greatswords/claymores are unappealing to me.

Sure you will do less damage than dual wield, which I use mainly for dragons, but you're a helluva lot faster than a 2h weapon and can still block, so it's not all bad.
