Weaponry

Hand-to-hand being removed seems relatively detrimental, admittedly, I never used it in Oblivion or Morrowind because.....It was rather useless. However, in both Fallout 3 and New Vegas I had several unarmed characters, and it was quite ambrosial. I don't understand why Bethesda wants to decrease the amount of variation in characters and what have you. Spears, I can honestly understand. They're fairly difficult to implement and more often than not, they're overpowered, useless, or the animations for them are simply abhorrent. Why not simply make hand-to-hand more along the lines of Fallout, where there are actually weapons for it, beyond your fists? Throwing weapons are also something that shouldn't simply be smashed and scrapped, I enjoyed occasionally playing a class along the lines of the "witch-hunter" in Oblivion, where you had both types of ranged combat at your disposal. Due to magic being in the weapons slot (which, I have no problem with whatsoever, in fact, I'm in favor of it), I will no longer be able to do this sort of build without having to bring the favorites menu up all the time, which is mildly disappointing.

In Oblivion my Khajiit was able to kill guards with his bare hands. It wasn't as easy as using an axe though I'll admit.

Yeah, you can do it fairly easily but, unless you're roleplaying or wanted something different, it was...Just there. I'd prefer if it wasn't removed and instead, fleshed out as an actual weapon system, like Fallout.

Yeah, is weird that they would remove something that was already in the Fallouts and Oblivion... perhaps they thought they couldn't do it justice or maybe they had just finished all the finishing moves for swords, claymores and blunt weapons and then realised they needed to do a [censored]load more with hand-to-hand... I personally have never used unarmed but I'm thinking about it in New Vegas just because of the range of special moves there are and the Ninja perk. Maybe its not a skill any more in Skyrim but they've kept it in the game and perks will be what makes you be better at unarmed combat? Pretty unlikely... if unarmed is gone I'm guessing there won't be a side quest that involves any physical interrogation like 'Silus Treatment' in New Vegas, that would have been cool...

So unarmed combat has been officially confirmed as being removed? I was always under the impression it had been moved to dual-wielding for Skyrim.

Hand to hand was removed as a skill. It might have been renamed, shifted to another skill, or none of the above (something else). I still don't think they removed fist fighting completely. That would be weird.

I don't think dual wielding is a skill. Two-handed weapons are governed by the two-handed skill while one-handed weapons and spells are governed by the one-handed skill and the appropriate magic skills. Shields probably have a block skill. Or not. I don't know.

That's what I'm thinking. What happens if you unequip your weapons & spells then attack? Lol

I said exactly that in another thread. Attributes were not done to well, for whatever reasons they removed them instead of fixing them, the new ways of casting spells wouldn't mesh with the old way of crafting spells, so maybe they are not fixed but gone, same with acrobatics, but after complaints about the uselessness of H2H in OB ( some peoples' opinions, not mine ), it was effectively already fixed in FO3, so I can't see a legitimate reason for removing it, the work on improving it is partly done.
BTw, useless? I could with some difficulty, kill brown bears and even Xivilai with H2H, not useless, just slower imo.

The Hand to Hand skill has been removed. I don't think this means that you don't still have the ability to punch in unarmed combat. I would imagine it simply means that it's not going to be very effective but can be used for 'messing around' or killing low creatures.

It seems more realistic to me.

I was under the impression that it was "One-handed" "Two-handed" and "dual wield" just because using a big two-handed claymore, wouldn't improve your skill with two long swords/daggers/katanas or what have you.

I think they should have short bows, long bows, and crossbows if not possible I will settle for duel wielding.

As in duel wielding bows? Yeah, I'm not even gonna explain why that wouldn't work. Also, this thread is primarily about hand to hand/unarmed where did you get bows from? I do agree with you though, I would love for my light weight assassin to take down targets with a longbow and teach those fools wearing hundreds of pounds of armor a lesson.

That's what the perks are for (specialization). We still need dev confirmation on dual wielding as a separate skill. I seriously doubt it is, though.

Dual wielding does not work as a skill, especially with the other confirmed 1/2 handed weapons skills.
