Weapons and Spells for TESV

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:35 am

This probably won't be as extensive as the Fallout weapon topics, but whatever...

What types of weapons would you like to see in the game? maybe a crossbow instead of a regular bow?
Perhaps make some regular items like a frying pan into weapons?
Throw a torch at a grassy area and cause a fire to burn everyone around?
Semi-Automatic crossbow?! (This weapon was first made by the Chinese in 200BC... possible?)

What other weapons from ancient times could be implemented in TESV? Also what kind of spells?

Normal spells and necromancer spells. Possibly if they add weapon creation, smelting spells or carving spells for spears.
Same type of weapons.
Not sure about a crossbow,as I don't use bows.
Equip anything and select the method of attack, i.e. throw a kettle or hit someone over the head with it. If this is in it then they can allow objects to damage each other and therefore you could use a knife to carve a spear out of wood.

I'd like to see the weapon categories broken down again. "Blade" and "Blunt" are just far too general. And if my axe was blunt, I'd take it back to the shop. I'd also like to see Enchant given the respect it deserves as a separate skill again.

I'm sorry, this is the first time I've seen someone support an argument of this type with a reference. I think I love you.

We should have x-bows, but not semi-auto ones.

I like to see at least as much diversity as you'd get for Oblivion with Frans running. The vanilla weapon and Armour range just felt to limited.

Bows and crossbows? Yes. Semi-automatic crossbows? No thanks!

I'd to see a return of weapon diversity of at least Morrowind quality, Daggerfall levels of diversity would be nice.

Auto-weapons: nah bro

Magic: Necromancy would be a new magic skill that I'd be interested in. The difference from conjuration would be that you have to have organs/flesh/bones/etc in order to summon your necrotic minion, and they wouldn't have an expiration timer, they would stay with you until they die. Maybe they could be un-healable to balance their permanence.

Crossbow I don't really like. Regular bow is fine with me.

LMAO best poll ever.

Anyway, everything they removed in Oblivion (weapon types, Levitate spell...) should return and they should introduce new stuff while they are at it.

I'd like to see some dual wielding, myself. And expland the categories of weapons back to Morrowind levels.

I want the old weapon types back.

Now about spells, I want for each spell to feel unique.
I don't want it to be like Oblivion or Morrowind that they're mostly generic and boring, even if it means having less spells I want them to actually have different effects, like most RPG's.

Lets take fire magic for example, I want there to be some variation like Fireball, Fire Wall, Fire Trap, Rain of Fire not just projectile (X radius AoE)/Touch or magic on self.

I know this is a bit off topic, but in TESIV, I always felt something fairly adrift when I summoned a headless zombie right in front of the head of the Mages Guild, without any consequences, I know this isn't full blown Necromancy, I'm just 'borrowing' it, but still a bit of feedback that what I'm doing is 'wrong' or something to such emphasis, would be nice.
Small, similar, attention to detail would be nice.

Anyone played Midas magic? Spells like that but with better graphical effetcs (the poor graphics is why I no longer use the mod) would be wonderful. In addition, bring back all the spells from morrowind that diddnt make into oblivion.

A skilled necromacer would be able to repair their undead, abet only a few more times.

I want to see more spell variety like in Midas magic mod, also really feel like I'm a necromancer instead of a guy with a nasty looking staff.

For weapons I'd like to see more variety with models like in morrowind when unique weapons were truly unique not just retextured like in oblivion.

Also staves for combat, cross bows, spears and polearms, throwing weapons and dual wielding

Havent posted here in a very long time, seeing the VGA announcement trailer brought me here.

Adding more options for players is always a good thing. Even if its there and you dont agree with it, the possibility for others to use and enjoy them should be enough incentive to add new things. Blunt weapons for example, Ive hardly ever touched them, but some people love them. It doesnt mean they shouldnt be in the game. Crossbows, darts and throwing stars were really cool in morrowind and Id like to see a return. Even if there were limited amounts of each it would give players another chance to be unique.

I'd really like to see a revamp of the spell system. I just didn't think there was enough variation in the Oblivion spell-set. It would be cool if they spell system was similar to older RPGs (like the Might and Magic series) where there are a variety of unique spells to use for each school of magic. I'm just not a huge fan of the "oh, let's have different levels of the same magical effect." It would also be cool to see spell-sets that are unique to certain character classes.

I would hope, at the very least, that they give greater variation to the graphics associated with each casting of a spell.

The Chinese auto-xbow is an interesting idea, but would only be a novelty and not really game changing, IMO.
yes they had them. no they aren't really as effective as you might think. they shot fast, (10 bolts in 15 seconds according to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repeating_crossbow) but had very little penetration and were only effective in mass volleys (not TES style game play). also, I imagine that holding them with one hand and cranking them with the other made them very hard to aim accurately with sustained fire.

In older games there was't much difference between the weapon types (which is why they "dumbed" them down i think) it was "swing to kill things" or "stab to kill things" which, besides late game enchanted artifacts left little consequence to the choice (even Morrowind and Daggerfall are guilty of this). rather than see more or less weapons, I want choices and consequences to my decisions. so if i have a low hp melee character, I might want a long spear. or if my opponent is using chain mail, I might switch from my sword to my mace. or if he has a large hammer, I'll use a dagger so I can get close to him and he can"t get a good swing on me, or run like hell. In other words rock-paper-scissors or its a hack-n-slash.
