Weapons becoming useless

You need to get a hunting rifle/sniper rifle and some armor piercing rounds. I used a varmint rifle and armor piercing rounds on those giant radscorpions as well, and I was able to kill them but it was a p.i.t.a.

I suggest also that you are wearing very heavy armor and a lot of stimpaks if you are going to box a deathclaw :banghead:

Melee/unarmed definately has the advantage with the armored melee opponents. Piercing strikes and super slam with using a regular ole rebar club I took out the quarry near sloan with minimal trouble! Let the companion take the initial swing, then go to town!

The Alpha and Mother gave me some trouble, they hit me first and just about one-shot me! Luckily first swing I got in knocked them down, then proceeded to kill in 4-5 swings tops! Quite satisfying to send these big pain in the butts flying!

Also, if you are using the shotguns regularly why not pick up shotgun surgeon? That perk and armor piercing rounds saved for these occasions should help alot!

When dealing with Deathclaws I was AMAZED that C4 explosives barely scratched them, even though I had low explosive skills. My tactics with the claws after many of times in the quarry are to cripple their legs and "kite" them around while blasting holes into them. I use ThatMachine ( M1 Garand ) and hollowpoints which seem to do the job, but it takes forever though.... might be since my main skills are Survival, Speech, and science. Also the other thing which was helpful is if you have Rex, his attack can knock the DeathClaws down for a few sec's just enough time to cripple their legs.

I thought explosives would of worked nicely, like in FO3, but these bastards are on roids!

Hollowpoints are for soft targets, not heavily armored targets like deathclaws.
