Weapons, Mods and Ammo Mega-Thread #6

I am a bit biased for over and under because I enjoy trap shooting but has there been any talk of the FO3 sawed off shotgun returning?

I liked it too. Its flaws can be corrected with the GECK(low damage and no critical). I wish it was a true sawed off shotgun, by that i mean a sawed of stock and not a pistol grip but I think they did it this way because they lacked a proper animation, they just used the handgun animation and not one for holding a rifle type grip with one hand.

The question then would be: In what caliber? We already have .22, 9mm, 10mm and 12.7mm SMGs. Those are the only calbers appropriate for SMG use that are known to be in the game. If it fills the role of high capacity SMG, then why just not add a high capacity mod for one of those? I don't have a problem with it's inclusion, I just don't see where it fits anymore. Josh seems to have worked hard to balance the weapons into tiers, but I don't see what role this would fill. It would just be functionally like one of the others, with some drawbacks to offset the additional ammo capacity, but with a different skin.

Also, Josh has read enough my posts on the 12.7mm SMG without correcting me that I feel it's a lock that the "cyberpuke sillyname SMG" is really the 12.7mm SMG. Call it 98% certain.

I meant in fo3.

And a typical sawed-off shotgun, as depicted in movies and whatnot, has the barrels and the stock sawed off.

Very true I prefer the over-unders just because you have both of the barrels lined up on the sights. You always want to get as accurate as possible especially in the case of using a Shotgun, accuracy is the key. :tops:

Or you could just put a choke in it to tighten the shot spread, giving the gun better distance and better close up damage, at the cost of less surface area being hit by the pellets.

You know, I wouldn't doubt if that was a mod, but it would need to be some sort of choke that's compatible with slugs, since slug ammo is confirmed.

Well, we're talking rifles today. Carrying over the debate from the one thread on AR series rifles (which are bascially all the same thing, with different features) and the discussion about the M1 Garand style loading animations and the newly confirmed "ping".

i'd love to know where it is you heard that PING! is confimed, i dont doubt, i just love the thing

You either shoot slugs out of a rifled barrel or out of a barrel with no choke.

What about a rifled choke?

I don't think that little amount of rifling would do enough to matter, I don't know if such a thing even exists. I could be wrong though. I've grown up around guns and know how to shoot and own a few, but I am not omniscient.

Yep, they do. And depending on the choke, or your modifications to it, you can reliably shoot shot too.

There are also the slugs that have indentations/grooves on them, to make them spin in the air. Air resistance causes them to spin, imparting accuracy on them.

I'm excited about customizing weapons. Two and a half weeks to go.

I have some questions about the anti-material rifle....
So, it's bolt action, and does it have clip like the FO3 Sniper Rifle?
And, do you think this rifle could deal considerable damage, even to power armored foe?
It' named Anti-Materiel rifle for a reason....

Well, it has a magazine like the FO3 sniper rifle, yes. I imagine that it will be able to cut through any DT in the game, so yeah, plugging a power armored dude with this should take him out or at least do good damage to him

Since the anti-material rifle is a very powerful weapon, do critical hits knock enemies down? The RL variant of it certainly can...

Haven't seen it yet in any of the gameplay videos, but If there's one gun in the game that this should apply to, this would be it. Now, realistically speaking, physical laws get in the way, but this is a game so why not?

I wonder if the Gauss Rifle will have knock-down again. If it does, I don't see why the .50 wouldn't.

The .50 has knock down as well as one hell of a kick for the player. In one of the earlier trailers it knocks a Knightkin back 5 feet.

In one of the newer videos they showed the AMR has a ton of recoil and knocks you back some if you don't aim it...
also I thought the Nightkin in the trailer died and simply flew a few feet away .-.

No that wasn't just wonky rag doll physics, big weapons like the AMR and shotguns will have knockdown.

Chotguns? Are ju chure mine? I don't need no stinkin' knowdown on my chotguns. Well, slugs maybe. Can you assign the knockdown based on ammo types? It's a feature selected in the geck for the weapon, right?

Yes, but you cnc change a lot with the ammo. Really a lot. According to Sawyer in an earlier thread.
