Weapons, Mods and Ammo Mega-Thread #9

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:49 pm

Hey .46, did they release the full weapons list with the leaked guide stuff?

I've been avoiding it in general, and I'm sure you are too, but I was curious if they did.

Oh, and I agree. Must be another Lever. I could see a bolt, but I don't know what kind. And there aren't too many popular .45-70 semis out there, to my limited knowledge.

I'm not so sure talking about the leaked info is a good idea. Let me PM a mod to see if there's a problem. BRB

Edit: Let's everyone please refrain from anything from the leaked strategy guide until I can get an answer from one of the mods. We play by the rules here in the Weapons thread. Regulations are Regulations.Don't want to get assigned KP or anything, right?

The BFR is already in the game as the Hunting Revolver. What weapon from the wiki page are you referring to?

No, that's what I was talking about. Why? Was it already established what kind of ammo the Hunting Revolver uses in FNV?

The Hunting Revolver is chambered in .45-70 Gov. What other gun were you thinking of?

For the purusing pleasure of all us firearms afficionatos, here's a list of all the guns I can think of that have been chambered in .45-70:

A number of Springfield Allin conversions (trapdoor) from 1873-1892
1873 Sharps Creedmore
1878 Sharps Borchardt
1874 Sharps
Remington #2 Creedmore
Remington-Keene
1879 Remington-Lee
1885 Winchester highwall
1883 Winchester-Hotcthkiss
1886 Winchester
Ruger No.1
Whitney-Burgess-Morse
Marlin 1895
Marlin 1881
Numerous Marlin-Ballards
Chaffee-Reese
Colt-Franklin
Thompson Contender
Magnum Research BFR

Hell no, I hated jankers, cleaning the whole MT fleet or some such is not fun when your mates are all down the pub.

Any other "old style" gun that might be in the game. Perhaps some kind of lever action, bolt action, or break action rifle in the game.

It's gotta be a Lever. Josh love him some lever-action long time. A large frame lever-action ala Winchester 1886 or Marlin 1895 is the most probable since. I suppose it could be a single shot rolling block/falling block or trap door, but I just get the feeling it's not.

@ Josh. That's not much uf a hint. Give me something really obscure and let's see if I can figure it out. Please?

I gave a hint in that line. :spotted owl:

I'll bet on a Marlin.

Up for winning 5 more of those NCR dollars .46?

EDIT: Anything that has to do with cobwebs, caps or arriving? He worded it carefully for a reason.

Yeah, I'm game. I got NCR dollars to burn. I'll take the 1879 Remington-Lee. I know that's not it, but that gun doesn't get the recognition it deserves. It was the first modern box magazine fed bolt-action in service.

OK, folks. I love a puzzle. Here's the clue:

Let's figure this one out. Brush, cobwebs, thinking caps, arrive, answer, spotted owl. I got nuthin. And my thinky-thing is starting to hurt. Since there seems to be no clues in word association, I'll have to take this clue literally, ie: we gotta smart our way through it. The only other hint I can glean is the cobwebs part. Did we kit on the answer at some time in the past? I don't think we've ever had a consensus on what it would be. And I can't recall Josh talking about any specific .45-70 guns in previous posts.

Grah. Time for work. I'll mull it over while I'm there. Can't check, but I'll post around 11 central if I think of anything. Good luck. Maybe I'll win me some NCR dollars. Could use em right about now. :tops:

Well, when you come back you'll find that I dusted a few cobwebs off my thinking cap:

.45-70 Gov't is regaining popularity as a lever gun round, especially in the Marlin 1895. Factory ammo is modest because it has to support Trapdoor Springfields, but the brass can be handloaded pretty hot for the Marlin action. There's also a BFR five-shot revolver (7" or 10") in .45-70 Gov't which is the definition of overkill unless you want to go grizzly hunting and insist on using a handgun. I see a fair number of single-action revolvers in .45 Colt. The Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt seems to be particularly popular. But yes, they definitely are more hobbyist/niche rounds, remnants of a bygone era.

Looks like you got my $5NCR, Kiebler.

I was always assuming it would be called something like "Buffalo Rifle" or something like that when I thought it would be a falling block. But that doesn't fit this as well. Maybe "Big Game Rifle"?

There is a Bison Bull Revolver, so maybe something similar in rifle form? And on another note, from your owl guesses earlier there is an Owl Head Pistol.

Sounds about right. Oh, and by the way, there's nothing legally wrong with discussing stuff from the strategy guide, because strategy guides don't have street dates that are legally binding. It's different from say, talking about a pirated game leak or something. There's nothing illegal about what the guy at gamefaqs did to get the strategy guide. If Best Buy is letting their employees buy it before shelving it, that's there policy.

Now, I don't know what the staff here will say about that, since ultimately, this is a private website and their law supersedes all others, but logically they should have no issue with it.

I'm not concerned with the legality. I simply wish to be a good citizen of the forum and abide by their norms. I saw a coupla thread mentioning the guide vanish so I sought counsel. The reply I recieved was vague. I think as long as we don't directly quote things, but simply discuss what we know, that'd be fine.

Wow. 9 threads already. I signed off at around #5... I'm liking the way the guns are turning out, but the Energy Weapons are the ones that really have me excited. Who else is going to enjoy a fully upgraded Laser Rifle with the Laser Commander perk?

I've always been a bronze and lead man myself, but ill pull at the occasional Plasma Defender, just for the [censored] and giggles of watching various lifeforms melt to goo mid-attack.

Only 3 mods for each gun? Wow thats already too much. You won't recognise the original model of the gun with those amount of mods on it lol. I think its quite a good idea giving people the ability to mod their guns into unique killing objects with our seal of death on them and the bullet. I really need to see how it works when I get the game. Is it also true what I heard that you can make your own ammunition? That would be cool :gun:

Not really unique anymore since mods are now more of a series of upgrades, not fully custimizable to your needs, but it's good enough for me. Yes you can craft your own ammunition.

Here's a question: Will the same typ of mods be different between weapons?

To clarify, will the scope on a Hunting Rifle look exactly the same as on a Service Rifle if modded?

I'd go for the 1886 Winchester, I've always been fascinated by those. With a possible Brass Plating mod?

Edit: I guess the Marlin will work for me.
