Weapons, Mods and Ammo Mega-Thread #9

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 6:51 pm

OK. #8 Filled up pretty quick. To carry over the discussion, we were discussing then newly confirmed fact that there will be a pool of only 3 mods available for each weapon. Some had hoped there was a larger pool of available mods and you could chose the three you wanted, but, alas, this is not the case. Something to do with limits on the number of .nifs desired. Also, there was mention of the upcoming interview Josh has tomorrow and what else we might learn weapon wise.

I think there's not much more I'm really dying to know, weapons wise. I mean I would like to know what other guns are in .45-70 and .50mg, but it's such a short wait now, I can wait and be surprised on the 19th.

There is just one thing I think deserves and answer to though. Our fellow poster, lilspankdog, has been patiently waiting to here confirmation one way or the other about the Thompson SMG being in the game. I reckon for his sake this question begs to be answered. I'd be happy with a decent hint, I'm sure we'd figure it out.

I'm easy to please with that sort of stuff I'm happy to be getting Scopes, Extended Mags, and things of that sort in the first place. I don't need some ridiculous amount of mods I'll probably never end up using.

That said only thing on my mind now is will each firearm have at least unique mod that can only be equipped on that specific firearm?

I believe that is so. I have seen pip-boy entries for ".357 Magnum Revolver HD cylinder" which would be a heavy duty cylinder for the SAA. Since the mod is named for the weapon it goes to, I think all mods will be like this. When you mash the "mod" button, a repair-like menu will come up and only the 3 mods made specifically for the weapon selected will show (assuming you have stolen procured all 3 of them in the first place) Even if two weapons share the same mod, ie: extended mag, it will look different, and possibly be inplemented differently, ie:the number of additional rounds may vary. (some settling may occur duting shipment. please consult your doctor beforehand. no warranty, either express or implied. may result in severe side effects up to and including death.)

Maybe so. They sure did spoil a ton of uniques the other night though. About half of that list from the weapons preview sounded like uniques.

I have a strange inkling that your probably correct in your assumption, with such a large amount of "unique" type weapons being revealed already what would be the reason to hide a Thompson? I'm thinking we're all just getting our hopes up for naught. :sadvaultboy:

I honestly don't care if it's in honestly. It's just one of those things that would be nice to have ya know?

Like I said in the last thread about the mods, I'm content with having just three mods. Just feel the 9mm pistol could've had a better mods is all.

I personally don't really care for the Thompson a whole lot, as I plan to play as a high tech sniper lady outfitted in HERMES armor and it wouldn't make sense for her to use it. I do think it'll be added in the first DLC though, there's no way it can't be in the game.

Well there's one more mod for the 9mm left, right? Also, my only issue with only having 3 available to choose from is that it limits choice and consequence. 3 slots + 3 mods = everyone will get the same mods every playthrough. So it's not like we're augmenting our weapons with strategically selected improvements, it's more like we're just completing them.*

*Some assembly required.

We only know of two mods for the 9mm pistol though, I expect the third to be a silencer though, don't know if you'd like that.

I'm sure the Thompson will be in at some point, DLC or otherwise. Anyway I'm happy the 12.7mm SMG would own it anyway.

Lol exactly. And to .46ACP that's why I was hoping there was more customizations because it felt like more of an upgrade than a personal mod.

Are mods found around the world? On bodies, in containers, laying on desks, etc. And with all of the mods in the world (3 for most weapons, easily 200+ seperate mods) will it take forever to find that one mod? Or will vendors have a whole inventory of them?

That's affirmative, over.

I think you'll see mods for the 50 or so guns, energy and some s'plosives, and some might not have 3 mods, they may have less. I don't think there'll be many mods for melee/unarmed, with the possible exception of poison, so we're looking at closer to 120-150 distict world items.

I don't honestly even have a chance % of it being in anymore or not, but I am kind of glad I do not know one way or the other because it motivates me that much more to explore the game and pick quest etc. The fact no developer that ive seen has confirmed it not being in the game gives it a chance. If you asked a developer will there be a water gun in New Vegas, the immediate answer would be "No", its the same principle. Then again you look at if they confirmed a gun like the Tommy Gun not being in id be something they'd rather just not say anything about at all to aviod any disappointment. No one is going to be sad because a water gun is not in New Vegas though lol.

I am hoping for good mods on the 10mm SMG and a laser sight for the Assault Carbine.

Well, I think the TenMM... number keys are broken sorry...has a laser sight attachment, which is... kinda like a light if it's mounted under the barrel, at least aesthetically. Other than that the Pip Boy light is sufficient I think.

I would like a directed energy beam. A fricken flashlight. To shine. At things. 'Cause I'm too damn lazy to walk over and look at [censored]. I just wanna be able to pop illum and eyeball an area.

That's what I think they're trying to do with it honestly, A weapon with so much history behind it may need that confidentiality and may take some time to find. That's if it's in anyway lol.

If it is actually dark in metros and what not now, then a flashlight would prove very useful, maybe even a flare that we can just strike and throw down a long, dark hallway, like a grenade.

We won't have metros. We know there will be something similar. I think it'll be a chain of sewers and drains because of the Hoover Dam.
