If you look up videos for the rail gun, that huge plume of fire is the surface of the rails being turned into plasma due to the extreme friction.

That's actually the air turning into plasma because the projectile is moving soooo fast, not the gun rails themselves.

It came to my attention that the .223 pistol is a sawed-off rifle
...
you guys owe me an apology.

Nah, that's just what the description in Fallout 1/2 says- but don't you believe it, those descriptions don't know what they're talking about, for example, FO2 will tell you the .223 pistol is one of a kind, but you can get more than one.

It will also tell you that the Bozar is an extremely accurate sniper rifle, and to be fair, it even looks like a Barret .50 caliber rifle, but fire it, and you'll be shocked to see it has magically become a single barreled gatling gun... how does that even work?

On somewhat topic, can we see any furthur classification of .50 Cal into such as HE rounds? oh i hope so.

Even better would be incindiary rounds. Pesky super mutants soaking up your rounds? try Incindiary .50 Cal rounds! not only will they blow limbs off your enemy's at your slightest whim but set them on fire while doing so! Coming soon to a retailer near you.

I did not see an apology in there.

@Parabellum HE, Incindiary, w/e its better than solid lead in some cases.

OK. This is what I get for making a Run to the Border after midnight. What are we apologizing for, again?

AFAIK, the only ammo type for .50MG confirmed is AP. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:50BMG_Rounds.jpg would make a nice touch though.

The Navy is also working on a rail gun. It uses about the same energy to fire a shot as it does to light Chicago for a year. Problem as I understand it is that every time they fire the thing it creates so much heat it destroys the gun.

Worth it, in my opinion, if it shoots down an ICBM...

Even if Chicago has to go without Intarnetz for a while.

You don't get an apology, because you're still wrong, so there.

Yes, stubbornness is part of my programming, just as resilience is part of my duraframe construction. The enduring protectron is built to last. Who do you think keeps all the other robots in the DC area running after they get mauled by critters of unusual size? I do. It is my duty to track down these critters, and demand tickets from them. If they do not relinquish them, or are immediately hostile, they are vaporized. Then I must repair the defunct units.

A protectron's work is never done, especially an enduring protectron.

Of course, I destroy my fair share of frenzied units as well, but I don't like to discuss that.

... Move along please...

We dunno, but with a name like "That Gun" I'd be surprised if there was more than one, after all, then they would be "Those Guns" instead.

Considering the naming conventions for uniques and the form of the name "That Gun", I'd have to make the assumtion it is. If it is not, and you have more than one in your inventory, what do you call them? Them Guns? That Gunses?

I dunno if this belongs here, but is anybody else bummed that the new hunting rifle is .308? Whose brilliant idea was that again?

Here's my reasoning. First, that rifle RULED in FO3, because .32 is ludicrously common. To the point where I could start throwing it when my trusty hunting rifle broke down. .308 just wasn't very common in FO3, and I don't expect it to be in New Vegas. Especially with TWO other large caliber sniper rifles. /veryunhappy.

On a more positive note, if anyone else saw the Primm video in the spoilers section, I was ECSTATIC to see a proper single-action revolver animation. I can't remember seeing a proper one in a video game in a very long time. Actually twisting the cylinder, while pressing down on the clearing rod under the barrel? I am so happy with the new weapon anims.

Ummmm I'm sure .308 will be way more common than it was in FO3 it's sorta common sence that the amount of an ammo type will change between games if one game demands more of it.

A) There is no .32 in FONV. Had to chamber it in something.
2) There are at least 3 rifles chambered in .308 in NV. I imagine you'll be finding a bit more of it laying around this time
III) Proper weapon animations FTW.

Am I way off base or is energy weapons the way to go for uncomplicated ammo storage and selection? Are there more than three types and flamer fuel now?

I would say that is a pretty good assumption right now. There will be ammo types and recycling for EW, but much less base ammo types. Good for hardcoe too, I bet.

No yea energy weapons would seem to be the less complicated and easier storage route for sure, too bad I do not use energy weapons.

Your point being? It even says on there that the problem is heat dissapation in the gun, not that the rails become plasma from firing, and you then link to a friction page. You just told me that I was wrong and then linked to two pages that prove my point.

There's even a picture where you can clearly see that it's the air behind the projectile and not the rails that are burning.
