Weapons taking forever to load. Anyone seen this?

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2015 1:55 pm

I've been experiencing an odd bug pretty much since the start of the game. When i attempt to draw a weapon, it doesn't happen instantly. My character switches to some wierd inbetween state where i have no weapons equipped and can't aim or fire, but still plays the animations of either the weapon i had, or the one i'm switching to.

The weapon eventually loads, and i'm stuck in that state until then, completely defenseless as the rest of the game goes on, usually forcing me to run away This takes anywhere from 5-30 seconds, which is pretty crippling in a fight.

I feel like it's getting worse since i installed a few texture overhaul mods, though it was definitely there before installing any.

The bug only happens once per weapon, per session. Once a weapon has loaded, it works fine and i can switch back and forth instantly. But restarting the game, or loading a save made more than a couple of minutes ago or made in a different place, tends to make it happen again

Has anyone experienced any similar bug? or is it maybe a hard drive problem on my end?

I saw the mentioned somewhere else. The speculation was that the game doesn't cache your weapons after fast travel, or possibly any area change. And suggested workaround was to equip through the guns you'll want to use after such area change. That way the lag should not occur when you're "on the spot".

i've also been experiencing slow texture loading issues, could it be related to video memory ?

I get structure "pop-in" pretty frequently, but ONLY at Sunshine Tidings Co-Op.

The gun thing actually got me killed. I was sniping at a gunner base when some mutants flanked me. I used the "quick select" (ironic, no?) to switch to the 10 (my preferred gun for close quarters).

He put the rifle away, but never DID get around to drawing the ol' pistol. So, I got my head kicked in. Quick select my ass, lol.

I don't think it's like that, more just the game not even trying to pull up the weapon data for quick access. It's sort of sensible since you can carry a crap load of weapons you're not going to use anyway and if you equip through pip boy menu there is built in delay anyway for the game to sort it out. Guess it would be good if the game checked through your favorited weapons and prepared them always for quick access.

Yeah had this happen a ton of times when using the weapon keybinds, a way to fix it quick is just select the weapon on the pipboy. It feels a lot like the reload bug that was in New vegas which left you exactly as vulnerable.

I actually can't recall it having happened to me ever. I also pretty much don't fast travel at all. Might he tied as the other source I read suggested.

Infrequently on Xbox One, bit annoying but normally resolves itself.

I have this quite a lot on PC, damn annoying. Selecting the weapon through pip boy will make it load properly though. This is one of those things that should have been fixed before launch honestly, since so many people are experiencing it.

I haven't had that problem, but I do occasionally get an issue where by gun or pip-boy won't even render in first person. Quickly switching from first to third and back again always fixes it, though.

Yeah it happens to me. But it only seems to happen on area load, so whenever I get into a new area I cycle through all my weapons.

same. my best solution is to simply look up and be away from any objects. this problem especially occurs with a .50 sniper rifle or big gun.

Have this plenty of time on PC, very annoying, worse then it happens during an fight.

Weapon load time can easy be as long as the cell load time too.

2GB vram and 24 GB system memory so it should not be an memory issue, more that gun texture is unloaded and have lowest priority on load rather than highest.

The bug I get is when you enter a door you have your gun sideways instead of pointing it forward and half to zoom in to fix it, sightly annoying.
