Weapons that you'll main character will use

Post » Wed Nov 24, 2010 12:13 am

OK, so we've already got a thread about the main weapon http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1163189-you-main-weapon-type/ and it seems the majority's main weapon of choice is either a Longsword or a Bow. Now let's see how things will change when ALL the weapon loadouts of your main character are considered. Again, your main character is the one you'll play on the first playthrough.
This time, the much requested shortswords are in, and the spectrum is much more thorough (though it doesn't include all possible dual wield combos - that would be insane!). It even includes the outlandish dual-shield an Dragon-shouts-only options  .

Assuming staves can be used as melee weapons again, I want to dual wield those.

Dai-katana or claymore...
Plus bow and spells.
Ohh I miss the dai-katanas from Morrowind. So awesome :(

I wield death in my right hand and shadow in my left. What greater weapons exist?

Single-handed mace/axe

Shield for other hand

I'm combat/warrior at heart.

Bow or Crossbow (Being the only ranged options one or the other will get used by almost everyone to some degree I think)
Dagger for sneak attacks
Axe or Shortsword or Katana for primary melee weapon

Despite the (rumors?) that birthsigns are out, I will still do a RP of a Shadowscale, and do bows, daggers, and maybe spruce it up and put a katana in there lol

Two axes would be badass!
Also Gandalf style would be awesome, if you can cast spells with the staff in your hand (probably not, we will have to see how they treat staves)

Dual shields sounds so much off the hook.
Another mix that isn't on the list: longsword and axe.

Ill go Assassins Creed Brotherhood Style. Spear/Halberd with a Crossbow, and Hand to Hand for those pesky jackasses that sneak behind my long weapons.

I chose longsword for right hand and spells for my left.

Staves look to be one handed in Skyrim with the screenshot and several concept art shots of them being in one hand, so you can most likely use a sword in one hand and a staff in the other and so on.

Concept art isnt a very good gauge for how stuff will end up being, gameplay-wise. And I was referring more to whether staves will be an actual weapon that you smash people with, or a spell casting kind of deal.
And for either case, I wonder what skill, if any, they will be a part of?

That's what the last dual wield option ("Dual Wield: other mix") is for. Longsword + axe isn't mainstream. In fact, I think I never saw it in any game.

Considering you end up in a Blades fortress and your mentor is a Blade, katanas seem to be a lock. At least the Akaviri kind, anyway.

The first thing I said was a screenshot and it showed a man in elven armor and a sword in one hand and a staff in the other with magic emanating from it.

Spears! Or any other polearm. Or double shields. If none of those are in, I'll just go with the boring sword and board style.

I'll use a spear and a longsword or shortsword. Not dual wield, the spear as a primary weapon and the sword for tighter situations. No shield.

I think I'm going to enjoy dual wielding spells with my mage. Using spells with both hands for increased power is going to be awesome. I just hope you can create your own spells again. If they remove that option for the sake of balance someone is getting stabbed.
