Weapons at the ready!

When I give companions weapons, usually heavy ones, they have this weird behavior that they keep unholstering and holstering their weapons during the heat of battle. It isn't them changing weapons because they pull out the same one they were using. In this example it is boone w/ a minigun.

Are others experiencing this? Are they doing it cause they don't like the weapon?

lol I love how everyone tries to change boone. he is a sniper why do people try and give him shotguns and miniguns and so on hahahaha. he's so much more effective with his rifle

nah, nah, hes much more much effective with an anti material rifle

but yea, i had this problem too. it might just be because a heavy weapon takes awhile to unholster, and the companion must think that its still holstered so its like its pressing the R button again and again.

Boone is supposedly bugged in the v1.2 patch version of the game, that's what you're seeing. If you're on the PC there is a fix for the broken script on the Nexus --> http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38842

he seemed like the best candidate to have the strength for a minigun, since AMR takes 8 STR and I gave him power armor (+2 Str) so I figured that would give him the 10 STR to wield the minigun.

He's a grunt that should be takin orders from me anyway. He really fell for it when I told him No Bark got his wife enslaved. :thumbsup:

Then who should get the mini gun? Lily?

That description pretty much hit the nail on the head. I'm console, so I 'll have to live (or ditch boone) till the next patch.

Boone is best with a sniper rifle, but giving him a mini-gun is just loads of fun. The guy is a mad man, and it's fitting of his personality.

This problem is unique to Boone and happened after the last patch. PC users can download a mod to fix his combat behavior but Console users will hopefully get the fix on the next patch. There's a thread in PC Issues too. Please add your voice. If you're on Xbox, a thread is needed in the forum for Hardware/Software problems. We want to make sure this is noticed and fixed in the next patch. Thanks if you add your voice to the threads. I have the fix on my PC version and Boone's combat is normal again.

This describes the problem...BugFix needed:

"an issue in the VDialogueCraigBooneSCRIPT. There is a section that monitors the player's reputation with the NCR and triggers a force greet if certain conditions are met. The code was causing Boone to evaluate his packages every five seconds even when not required. Two semicolons fixes it. On hindsight, it's pretty obvious what was happening. An EVP will cause an NPC to drop out of combat - holster their weapon. When run constantly, apparently it breaks head tracking in the follow packages also."
