Weapons of the Wasteland: 10mm Pistol - Customisation Guide!

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 8:32 pm

Hello,

I've started a series on customizing weapons in Fallout 4 called: Weapons of the Wasteland.

The first episode focuses on the 10mm Pistol, we have a look at the base weapon, and at what modifications can be made depending on skill level.

I'd love to get some feedback, let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Good vid with an interesting approach to the topic. Simple format, clear explanations and good demos of the points you're making. I look forward to seeing what you do with other weapons.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. If you've got any suggestions for a gun you'd like to see next, feel free to let me know here or in the comments of the video.

Nice idea, but hampered some by the fact that there is a clear bias to your personal playstyle. The Calibrated receiver for improved Crit damage and the Automatic receiver for a full-auto weapon are perfectly good options, but you don't even address them because it's not how you play the game. That's fine, but not everyone plays the game the way you do. If you want this series to be as informative as possible, you need to address all the options.

Now, for most of the weapon, your advice is fine. However, you need to address all receiver options. I'm not saying you have to go through every single one, but with the 10mm Pistol alone, you have several groups:

1. Per-shot damage. Great for those not using VATS, as it does the highest damage per hit.

2. Crit Damage. Normal damage doesn't spike as high, but higher damage on a Crit means that when you need the extra damage against a tough opponent, this weapon will do great. Unfortunately, lack of numbers currently leaves the fate of this ambiguous; if Crit Damage factors in upgrades, the damage boost from the Calibrated receivers may not make up for the higher base damage of the Powerful receivers.

3. Full Auto. Less damage, but more rounds down range in a short time. Includes options for armor piercing, even more rate of fire, or increased damage.

In order for your video series to be as informative as possible, you need to address options you may not particularly like, because someone out there may prefer that option. I would also do a section somewhere that is simply showing what the different sight options are. Stand at a specific, easy-to-find spot, and aim at a particular item win different scopes. Maybe back into a corner of your testing ground, have a window (or remove the wall panel you're looking at) at the far end, and scope in. This shows both what the scope looks like, and the magnification of the scope, so they can choose which one they like.

Overall, it was a solid video, and I'm not trying to knock it. I'm just pointing out that for best use by everyone, it needs to be as objective as possible. Besides, testing out the weapons you aren't a big fan of based on description may make you realize that you really like something that you didn't think you would, and you might decide to run with it yourself.

I appreciate the feedback, you make some solid points. I completely agree and I have considered them before making the video as well, but there's a few things holding me back from adding them.

1. The video is already fairly long for what it is, if I add more versions of the weapon and the different scopes it'll end up being far too long.

2. I'm not going for a full 100% guide thing, I want this to remain fun as well, otherwise I might as well just take static enemies that can't fire back and compare how many shots it takes in each body part to kill said enemy. It would definitely be more informative, but it wouldn't be as much fun for me.

I will also mention that I do say these are my personal favorite ways of upgrading the gun, not necessarily the best way, but you could say that the video title has the word 'Guide' in it, which would suggest I should be making the video with an objective opinion, and not with a subjective opinion like I'm doing now.

I will definitely take your advice on board though, there's always room for improvement and I very much appreciate your way of giving me advice, it's a nice change from the general 'ur vid sux!' criticism. That's not to say I get a lot of those, but when I do get people disliking my video's, their comments are often something along those lines.

Been looking all over for his kind of guide. I have often looked at modifying a weapon and wondering where the hell to start, this has help me figure it out :D

Some great work here Donkey. Can't wait for the next one.

Tagged, will have a watch later on, thanks.

Using a 10mm as my main weapon and just picked up a Legendary Irradiated version. Need to get to level 23 for gun nut 2 to finish customising.

Thanks, I appreciate that you'll give it a watch later :).

I'll probably end up covering legendary weapons/unique weapons at some point as well.

I don't know too much about that but I can't imagine it changes it by much, so it's probably not worth covering.

This is terrific. One suggestion: do a section on effectiveness in VATS because that is a large part of the game.

Alright, I will take that into consideration. Maybe I will just start using VATS during the combat sections instead of doing a new section on it though. I don't want the episodes to get much longer.

Thanks for the feedback.

As an extra note, the next episode will be up in a few hours if you're interested. I will post a link here later as well.

Maybe kill 2 with normal attacks and then 2 with VATS? VATS is super perk dependent though, a nvde character using VATS is going to be several orders of magnitude less effective than someone who has invested in the 5-9 luck perks and the weapon damage perks.

Indeed, that's why it'll be difficult to showcase as I'm using a character who hasn't got anything leveled up except for the weapon/armour modification perks.

Loved the vid! The 10mm is the first gun I've been trying to fully upgrade and this vid helps a lot.

Would love to see the best Sniper Hunting Rifle you can make.

For those of you interested, the next iteration of the series is out. In this episode I focus on the Submachine Gun, which is a surprisingly fun gun to use.
