Weapons won't kill enemies

Post » Wed Feb 03, 2016 3:47 pm

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum but I have been playing F/O 4 for awhile, and all of the Fallouts since the game series first came out. I've noticed that I can't get kills with my weapons anymore, which is very annoying and makes it no fun to play the game. Has anyone else experienced this issue? What can be done to fix this? I have tried reloading the game numerous times as well as traveling to other areas and the issue is the same. I really don't want to have to start the game over as I'm on lvl 37 and have put a lot of time into it so far. Thanks for any feedback that is given.

I forgot to mention that I am playing this on XB1. Also now I am able to just walk through most doors, without being given the option to open them.

Explain exactly what you mean by "can't get kills with weapons," please.

Brewer, when I shoot at enemies with any weapon that I have it doesn't do any damage to them. My companion and other NPC's can get damage done to the people/animals that I shoot at but I can't. Obviously it's some kind of a glitch, but how can it be fixed, any thoughts?

Weapons usually kills most enemies as long as you're hitting them.

Whether or not your damage is high enough to kill them before they take you down is another story.

I mean, in a fire conflict you may use covers, distractions, throw some explosives, engage from longer ranges or get closer, based on what you've got.

As long as you put damage perks into the right brench of weapon:

Rifleman for non-auto rifles, commando for auto's etc,etc its going to be fine.

yeah, some enemies might get bullet spongy at survival but that'd gonna happen more like past level 40ish.

have you tried hitting an enemy using VATS?

If you are not getting any damage when you hit them (at high percentage) using VATS or critical, you definitely have a glitch.

If you are shooting from the hip, you may, very well, simply not be hitting them.

Very odd glitch.

What happens when you reload a save from before the glitch started ?

Are you on PC, Xbox one, PS4

Can you try an older game save or starting a new character to see if it works?

If on PC are you using any mods?

on PC, I found out that when you use the no clipping cheat (tcl) your projectiles go nowhere. they make cool looking tracers though :)

Erz, I've tried loading older saves and the same thing happens. I have noticed I can get one shot to hit and sometimes I can get 1 kill but after that it goes back to no damage being done by my weapons.

Sonny, When using VATS its the same thing, no damage, even at 95% chance to hit.

Just plain weird. Perhaps one of your mods is interfering?

If you are under level because you have only done main quest and have not taken the weapon perks/mods then the endgame certainly becomes a bullet sponge game. Just finished watching a youtuber that fast traveled thru the main quest with no end-game weapons and it was taking lots of hits to take things down despite the BOS army backing him up (still using a low level auto pipe rifle!) because everything is a skull level relative to his mid-twenties whereas I was mid fifties when I did it and was one-hitting everything on easy.

So be clear is the issue not getting any damage at all, or is it a case of bullet sponges?

There was something I had to do on one of my runthroughs when I couldn't use a weapon at all on the PS4.

I saved my game out to my web account and then uninstalled the game completely. Once I reinstalled it, it seemed to solve the problem.

I've had to do the same thing with Skyrim, Witcher & Dragon Age as well (different problems).

Just a thought. Don't know if it helps.

Have you tried a new character to see if it happens there.

Since you are on the Xbox One you can try holding onto the power button for about 10 seconds and then turning it back on. That sometimes helps to fix glitches on Xbox One.

Im surprised nobody has gone, " of course guns don't kill people, people kill people" route.. :bunny:

Anyhow, it sounds like that saved game is messed up. A couple odd ball suggestions, try sleeping, try dying (by tossing a grenades* at your feet) and having it autoload to your last save. Idea is your trying to get the game to refresh your character to kill that bug. If that doesn't work, your probably sol. If you were on a pc, I could probably suggest a few console commands, but no dice for consoles.

*For whatever reason sometimes killing your own character can fix some bugs in past Beth games.

I ran into something similar a few time before the first patch, switching to a new weapon and back fixed it.

Have you tried dropping your weapons or reassigning favourites?

Hmm, one would think "turning it off then on again" would be the first thing people would try.

Wait, who am I kidding...
