[WIPz/RELz] Weather: All Natural

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:19 pm

btw, there's no mod that fixes the "raining through roofs" issue as of yet.

Hmm... could this be a mod project? Well, enough off-topic here. I get myself better educated on that and see if I could possibly do something about it (not promising anything, though).

OGE could try to do that at some point, but it's not easy by any means it seems.

You said:
chris_1979 asked the exact same question on the http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1063802&st=140 about 1/2 an hour later. I don't think he has a clue what was causing his troubles.

AT THE VERY LEAST: disable a given mod to see if it could be the problem, before posting on that mod's thread about it.

Should i be asking your permission in the future to enter into the forums and write down my findings?? Has any of your precious time been lost in reading or helping me?? In fact some people here help eachother... Maybe your not accustomed to these kindnesses but some people are. If you have anything to say relating to my findings then by all means i invite you to. If you have anything against me writing here then by all means don't read these forums because they are open to anyone to write their stories. Yes, i wrote in reneers thread like i said i would. Because his mod causes the ctd's. Now indeed i don't have a great clue at whats happening and the problem with ctd's is that they don't give much information. But still i don't see you adding anything to the sollution. And as such if you have anything to add then let it be helpfull in the future. These kind of personal attacks don't belong in a forum.

[edit]
Have you ever heard of the proverb saying: There are no stupid questions only stupid answers. And i believe i have disabled the mod after this advice was given to me.. YOu see some people are helpfull. YOur just not one of them!

On the subject of spells that change the weather, does anyone know of any besides
Spoiler
Sheogorath's weather changing spell
? I'm aware that there is one in LAME too. If people could give me the name of the spell and the mod it is from then I can try to make AN compatible with it. Also any other vanilla spells of the sort.

I downloaded http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2256 a while back, but never installed it. Don't know if it has any compatibility problems. The description says it just uses the SetWeather command.

Heh, going through all the weathers, I've checked all the interior ones, and I'm about half way through through the exterior ones. Got some very nice weathers, and some (IMHO) not so nice ones. However, the weather of the day award goes to 0x0186ef (HTFCloudy1), which with the change to LprMan's textures I did a couple of versions ago, looks amazing at Gamehour == 10.09 (10:00 in game).

EDIT: Heck, anything with LprMan's textures looks great. They're just that well done. :D

I know, I know, you'll be saying, "God! what now!" :P but I've noticed something else...

Here is test test I'm performing. Its really just a stability test for the current mods I'm running to see how long I can go without a CTD. 3 realtime hours crash free so far but this is also showing some interesting anomalies with All Natural.

I start out in Leyawiin grab my Black horse ( I use start choices to give my self Max Level and Black horse ) helps with testing. Anyway, I start out from Leyawiin full gallop on the black horse down the Yellow road. Its raining. Storming really, thunder in the distance. I pass the Panther River, still raining, I cross the Silverfish River and right dead between the Silverfish river and Corbolo River the weather instantly turns foggy. Rain has totally stopped no thunder lightly cloudy foggy weather. I continue on down the yellow road to the imperial city and make a left at the intersection of the red ring road. Cross the Upper niben bridge and make another left onto the Green road. Right around the point where the road branches off between the two inns ( Ill Omen ) and the other one. The weather changes again, instant transition, clear skys no fog.

I've also noticed this seems to like to happen around Anvil too and some times around the orange road silver road intersections. Not as often but it does. I dont think I'm running too fast for transitions to occur. Its not a supercharged stallion or something. If I start 5 new games, each new game entitles closing oblivion and reopening the game, starting a new game this issue described above usually occurs in about 3 of the 5 games. Neither my load order or content changed from what I posted previously.

I also dont necessarily have to be on horse back running full gallop. The Anvil issue happened last night, I was on the hill overlooking Anvil near where the bandit on the road jumps you for money. I was looking at the moon, clear sky no clouds this time. I was watching closely, which is whats so wrong about this. Its dark in the room silent... the night sky on Oblivion... captivating... and the moon  ... BAM! :shocking: CLOUDY THUNDER FLASH LIGHTNING RAIN INSTANT CHANGE! almost threw me out of my chair. Like a flash bulb went off... Rude! man! rude. lol not cool Oblivion :stare:

Lol, anyway, just a report. Bug or just my wacked out game its up to you to decide.

Grab my Weather Debug Utilities of TES Nexus, and use the ring to get what each weather is when the weather changes. If you can get the weathers before and after the sudden changes, then that would make things a lot easier to solve.

Also, did this occur before 0.9.8? Oh, and post your load order, it might be another mod messing up the weather.

Well, I used your weather debug utilites, The ring was nice but I wish it worked like the spam. I actually primarily used the spammer and the Conscribe. Through out the tests which I performed, 9 in all, streamline appears to be causing it. I dont really know what about streamline is causing it because I tested with settings recommended in the All Natural Readme (also those are the settings I've already been using). I tested by totally disabling Purging because I suspected it. My hypothesis was that because I was ignoring combat and just running past monsters and bandits Streamsave was occurring often and with that every save was a purge. I would in fact see instant transitions after streamsaves. But then after disabling purging totally it would still happen. I even disabled purging with streamsaving in case Streamline was ignoring the purge settings. Still it would instant transition at random times even. I started noticing it occur even if there was no streamsave. Maybe its related to the way streamline changes settings based on FPS.

A final note before I answer your questions, I only noticed the instant transition occur once or twice when I didnt use streamline and it wasnt when it was raining. It would change from foggy to clear or two different types of clear weather. The clouds in the sky would stutter or shift radically again though that only happened twice in the 5 times I tested without streamsave and only during two of the tests. There are logs for each test but I need to compress them. If you want I can email them to you 28Kb 7z or I can base64 encode it and post it here in a small codebox either way the logs arent very big compressed.

Your questions:
Did it occur before 98? If I recall it did but I didnt do the running around and testing like I've been doing recently so it wasnt as pronounced. I was playing a character and I tended to stick around town mostly. Streamline was used though. I do recall noticing it in Shivering Isles, fog to rain or clear to fog instantly. But I havent tested that here so I dont know if it does it still or if you fixed it with your latest changes instituted in 98. Some of that could have been related to the New Sheoth issues you fixed I suppose.

One final observation. All the tests involved riding from leywiin down the yellow road around the bottom half of the red road back down the green road to leyawiin again. Often I would notice that the weather type around leyawiin was 00038EF2 when I started a test. During one test without streamline a normal transition would occur and the weather would change to 00038EF1. The percentage countdown could proceed back up from 0 and rain would slowly stop. Then At around the time it reached .75 it would finally start raining again. As soon as the countdown reached 1.00 it would change to 00038EF2 and begin slowly changing to that weather type by stopping raining. It would finally start changing to rain again around .75 and as soon as 1.0 rolled around the weather would again change to 00038EF1 starting the cycle over again. Slowly stopping raining then slowly start raining. Did that 3 times on my trip down the yellow road in one test. Almost felt like cloud bursts or something. Very interesting, weather is a funny thing in Oblivion huh?

I feel its streamline causing the transition issues and I'm not sure what settings I should change if any that would resolve it. Its unfortunate but I think I might have to stop using streamline. Your thoughts?

With the advent of Oblivion Stutter Remover, there's been some question in my mind as to whether Streamline is even still necessary. Other than using it to set fog distance to match the uGridsDistantRange value it's been annoying me more and more lately, and I've come to the conclusion it's because it stops everything to save so often, even when I raise the limit to 15 minutes. The periodic saves are still nice, but I think maybe it's time may have passed with as stable as OSR is making things lately.

I do admit that OSR is nice but I like the fact that streamline adjusts levels of detail. I can run around with 30 fps with OSR in most areas but in places around Anvil and around the Bravil area I can drop down to 18 fps. Still very playable with OSR but it feels like.... not stuttery but less smooth I dont know how to explain it. I run OSR and Streamline which then tends to keep the game running between 30 and 25 FPS regardless of where I am. I use skyranger-1's recommendations for the streamline settings so it works great... Well, it seems other then this anyway and then there is also the streamsave. Thats saved my butt a few times. I can live without the detail adjustments I guess but the streamsave. I duno, maybe if there was something that only did a streamsave and functioned nearly identically to streamsave. I've looked too, trying to find just a nice multisave timed autosaver something similar to streamsave feature wise, save after combat, dont save when you have low health, that sort of stuff but I've came up empty. I digress, getting off topic I guess.

I'm just curious what could be causing instant transitions when Streamline is in the mix. If its not purging causing it what else might it be?? If this is something that can be reproduced then maybe a less conservative compatibility notice in the AN readme?

Sorry, but that seems like an odd complaint. It saves at the intervals you set in the ini, so if you think it's too often you can of course raise the interval even further. You can also turn off purge before save if you find the time it takes to do that annoying.

I have set the interval. I used to have it at 5 minutes, then switched it up to 15, and after the last few play (mostly playtest though) sessions that last fairly long, it seems to get in the way more than anything. I already have the purge before save option off, and the purge on wait/travel due to the interference it generates with AN. The time it takes to save is still significant. So odd complaint or not, it's not like I don't know how to manipulate the thing to be less annoying.

My point was that I find it odd to complain about a mod feature that works exactly as advertised and which you have full control over at that.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22136 is an alternative.

Since release, I've played a couple thousand hrs + of OB... only had one corrupt save situation, and that was a result of putting too many thousands of items in a container. I use quicksave all the time, but since hearing about possible corruption (long time ago) regularly delete my quicksaves. So I just press F5 frequently. *crosses fingers*

@ arcwolf: If you could codebox the logs here, that would be great. The weather cycling you mentioned in the last paragraph of your post is definitely a bug, but if memory serves it's one that occurs when AN sets a weather, and something sets something else, and then AN reasserts control, and then looses it again, and so on. I'll follow it up when I see the logs.

If memory serves I believe you'll find that scenerio logged in the Without Streamline 2.log

UUe encoded - contains Logs.7z with 9 logs

Copy this to a text file and rename it to Logs.uue a program like Powerarchiver should be able to decode and uncompress it. If you cant get it to work let me know I can still send the 7z its self via email its only 14k

OK, I got the logs. I'll take a look through them and see if I can spot anything.

In other news, I just finished going through all the weathers, so they all look OK now. Pretty much the only things wrong were fog distances for interior weathers and excessive blue tinting on some exterior weathers, but there wasn't that many weathers that needed fixing.

EDIT: I had a look at the SI weather changing spell and the spells in LAME, and they are compatible with AN. For LAME, don't press the 'Release Weather' button at the bottom of the weather options. By compatible, I mean:

- Works with vanilla weathers only (no new ones from AN).
- Works for as long as you stay in the same worldspace. All Natural will re-assert control upon worldspace or interior cell transition.
- If changing the weather in SI, and you switch region, AN will re-assert control.

I think that aside from the last point perhaps, that means they'll work as without AN. I'd imagine that most other weather spell mods would work in the same way, and so would also be compatible. However, weather spells that can change to weathers added by any of AN's included weather mods (AWS, NW, EW), will most probably not work, and shouldn't be used.

I'll add information about this to the readme in the next version.

Off-topic: I love streamsave. I never save through the menu. I hit F5 almost continually (after almost every fight) because my game is sadly a bit unstable. And when I want to quit I hit F5, wait a few seconds, then hit Alt-F4. Never have to bother with those silly menus. Heh.

On-topic: Seagate fixed my hard drive and I'm getting all my mod stuff back on Monday! Then I promise I'll push hard and finish Chorrol ASAP (it's almost done). Sadly, my WD Raptor main hard drive is inaccessible which has caused me to lose my Dragon Age saves, which actually will help productivity since I don't feel like restarting DA:O just yet...perhaps some anxious All Natural user broke my Raptor drive for this very purpose???

I've been doing some testing for the cathedral crashes, but I can't replicate them. Could anyone who's experienced them post their load order, and try disabling everything but AN before attempting to duplicate their crashes for me? I test with just AN loaded, and I haven't been able to get a single crash yet, so I'm wondering if there's another mod that's factoring in. Also post any OBSE plugins you're running.

Thanks in advance.

May need to look closer at the Elsweyr compatibility because I left Leyawiin during a heavy downpour and crossed the entire desert area without that ever changing. It should probably be releasing weather control if you go anywhere into the province, right? At least once you've crossed into the actual desert?

Hmm, at the moment the weather script will stop doing anything when you go into Elsweyr, but the weather last applied by AN had the override flag, which would prevent he weather from changing, now that I think about it. I'll think of a way to release the override without potentially affecting the weather for any other mods.
